Fairphone5 not recognized by PC after Android 14 Update

Title. Since the Android 14 update the system does not register data transfer cables anymore. Worked perfectly before.

This is an extremely critical error and will force me to buy a new phone if that is not fixed ASAP.

You know telling us user will not help to fix it? Did you contact FP support?

Edit: cant reproduce just tested

Where did I tell anyone to do anything? I am describing the potential consequences of the current status quo.

As for contacting support: The description of this forum is “Find solutions and ask community for help with your FP product. If you have a HW or SW issue this is the right place.”
So that’s what I’m doing: Asking in “the right place.”

I moved your post to the discuss section, as this statement is contradictory to asking for help from other users.

Edit as a little reminder:

No problems here.

Tip : make sure the phone is unlocked and screen on when you attach the cable.
After attaching the cable, make sure that File transfer is selected in
Settings > Connected devices > USB

And of course, there could be a problem with the cable (try another), the phone’s USB port or the PC’s USB port (try another).

I don’t think Hahnfruh’s question is about registering with Fairphone as a phone owner. Just the data cable isn’t recognized. The problem may have nothing to do with the Android 14 update.

For sure it isnt and only remind them that they are still not talking to FP here

No, you don’t ask anything, you (with your own words) “describing the potential consequences of the current status quo.”

You also don’t post any information, what is your FP5 OS, PC/NB OS, what cable you use, what you (if any) try to resolve, etc…

Anyway, you problem is not global, maybe not problem with FP5 but with your setup/cable/computer…

With my FP5, stock Android14, NB with Linux Xubuntu 22.04 i don’t have any problem, and work:

  • file transfer with cables: USB-C ↔ USB-C and USB-C ↔ USB-A

Others data related working use of USB-C in FP5:

  • using USB-C OTG Card Reader
  • use desktop mode with external USB-C Portable 14" LCD (and BT Mouse+Keyboard)

So, based on your used OS:

  1. Windows
  • if connect cable, is anything show in DeviceManager?
  • not missing some driver, using latest drivers?
  1. Linux or macOS:
  • if run “sudo dmesg --follow” and connect cable is someting show?
  • if connected FP5 is show in “lsusb” (on Linux) or “ioreg -p IOUSB -l -w 0” (on macOS) ?
