Fairphone’s Ongoing Exclusion of Malta from Accessory Shipping: A Frustrated Owner’s Experience

Hello Fairphone Community,

I’m writing as what may be the only Fairphone 6 owner on the island of Malta — and I feel entirely forgotten by the very company I chose to support for its values of fairness and inclusivity.

While I was able to obtain the Fairphone 6 itself through alternative means, I have run into a ridiculous and unnecessary wall: Fairphone will not ship any accessories to Malta — not a case, not a screen protector, not even a lanyard or finger loop. And this is despite Malta being a full EU member state.

I understand there may be some legislative restrictions around battery shipments. But let me be crystal clear:

I am not asking for a phone. I am not asking for a battery. I am asking for non-hazardous plastic and glass accessories.

There is absolutely no legal reason these basic accessories cannot be sent via air to Malta, and yet your website simply refuses to acknowledge the existence of my country in the EU dropdown. The support reply I received cited logistical or legislative reasons — but that doesn’t stand up to scrutiny for non-electronic items. This is a design oversight, not a regulatory issue. It’s unjustifiable.

To add insult to injury, buying accessories from third-party sellers comes with:

Inflated prices (e.g., €45 for the standard screen protector instead of €29.95)

Limited stock (most resellers don’t carry the case or loop)

Extra shipping costs on every single item

This is the opposite of the accessibility and sustainability Fairphone claims to promote. Instead of empowering early adopters in underrepresented markets, I’m being told — essentially — that my support doesn’t count.

So I’m putting this here publicly:
Please fix this. Add Malta to your website as a valid shipping destination for non-battery accessories. Or, at the very least, provide a manual solution through support for those of us trying to stay committed to your ecosystem.

Thanks for listening — and I sincerely hope to see action rather than silence.

— A frustrated (but still hopeful) Fairphone user in Malta

Welcome to the community forum.

While I can understand your frustration … Fairphone don’t claim to ship to the entire EU. Here’s the country list … https://support.fairphone.com/hc/en-us/articles/17121765976849-Shipping-Costs#shipping_countries … and with it they clearly state “If your country is not listed: We do not ship to your country.
You make it sound like it should be a given, but it is not.

@Alon_Brandt … Could Fairphone give some insight why Malta isn’t included in the countries Fairphone ship to?

Thanks for the reply and for looping in @Alon_Brandt — I appreciate the engagement.

However, just to clarify:
My issue isn’t that Malta isn’t currently on the list — I’m aware of that, and I’ve seen the linked support page.

My issue is that it shouldn’t be excluded in the first place, especially for non-electronic accessories like cases, lanyards, and screen protectors. These are non-hazardous, lightweight items that every other EU webshop has no issue shipping by air to Malta — and Fairphone is supposed to be better than other companies when it comes to openness and inclusion.

I already own the Fairphone 6. I’m not trying to import a battery or phone. I’m just trying to get the official accessories without overpaying through third-party resellers, all while being locked out of your official store for no legal or logistical reason that applies to the items I need.

If it’s a policy oversight, please fix it. If there’s a workaround, please provide it. But silence or redirection to a generic shipping page doesn’t match the values Fairphone was built on.

its really interesting what interpretation about FPs values exist.

Yesterday I ordered accessories through a reseller (living in DE not Malta), as those are currently not available in the FP Shop and it was cheaper due to shipping costs, the products itself had the same price as in the FP Shop. I dont get your rant and would advise to open your eyes and mind and look for alternatives.

You’re missing the point entirely.

This isn’t about avoiding resellers — it’s about being blocked from ordering basic accessories directly from Fairphone, despite Malta being listed in their own Terms of Sale as a supported EU country.

Fairphone Terms of Sale – Section 5.2
“…Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria… Malta… Portugal, Romania, Slovakia…”

I’m not asking for a favour. I’m asking Fairphone to align its webshop with its own policy — or at least explain why it doesn’t.

That’s it.

well you mentioned that reseller part and I just added a different experience as I doubt the rest will be sorted out quickly.

And to add: I ordered the case at the reseller while the FP shop has nothing in stock…same price, less shipping costs…

As @Alon_Brandt is succeeded by @anon76468197 I include her here.

Is this from https://www.fairphone.com/en/legal/terms-conditions-sale-fairphone? Where the full quote would be

… which would mean you could claim warranty from Malta, not necessarily shipping.
But it is interesting that this differs.
Well, we can only wait for Fairphone to say or do something anyway.

Is it shipping cost related? perhaps their courier of choice (UPS in my experience) doesn’t have service there?

This sentence is here to bump the thread back up.

Bump up what for? You have to contact them via official channels to get an answer. Here it might probably come, however the chance is very low

That’s exactly my point. I bumped it because it gains traction here when the conversation is still flowing and dies when it doesn’t. I was hoping one of the people that were referenced earlier from Fairphone would have replied but it’s been 5 days so I bumped it back up in case they missed the notification and/or thread.

Well I doubt it will help you to bump this very personal/specific topic as we the user of this forum have said all we could and the employees seem to choose the way of silence (as normal). As they arent taking part in the conversation, they arent notified about the bump thus it will not help you especially not on a sunday evening. Take your energy to contact them via life chat during business hours would be my suggestion or contact their legal department directly.

Okay, I will try that tomorrow too.

And/or on social media, they seem to be more responsive via their SM Channels…

Hi Tony,

Thank you for sharing your experience with Fairphone.

At this time, our webshop shipping options for accessories are limited to selected countries due to ongoing logistical and operational constraints. Unfortunately, this means that accessories like cases, screen protectors, and other non-electronic items are not available for direct shipping to Malta via our webshop.

We absolutely understand the frustration this can cause and we’re continuously reviewing our logistics setup to improve availability. In the meantime, we recommend checking with our local and European resellers, as some of them might offer shipping to Malta.

For the latest updates on our shipping policy and to raise any specific questions, you can visit our Help Center here:
:backhand_index_pointing_right: https://support.fairphone.com/hc/en-us/requests/new

Your feedback is valuable and will be shared internally as we work towards improving accessibility for all Fairphone customers.

Thank you for your understanding

Okay, Sarah… if trust is the last thread I’ve got, then I’m glad you were the one who gave me a reason to hang onto it. I’ll hold onto that — and I hope you do too. :face_holding_back_tears:

This is no longer just a Fairphone to me — it’s a Sarahphone now… :smiling_face_with_tear:

I believe that is not currently the case.

The warranty document does not mention Malta either.

And as far as the terms of sales are mentioned, I think the link you posted does not lead to the most recent version. The one posted in 2021 does again exclude Malta, Terms and conditions of sale Fairphone - Fairphone

@anon76468197 could you please comment on the possibility to register for an extended warranty with an address in Malta? Is/was/will it be possible in any predictable time framework?
