Well this can be seen as being off topic if being fair isn’t the root of this endeavour. And novelties in terms of extra toys and gadgets though they may be called novelties for the consumer are nothing but further distractions form the ‘ecological disaster’ that is the rise of the self proclaimed ‘homo sapiens’ over all other forms.
The planet as yet seems stable though predictions are that in 5000 billion years the sun may supper nova and engulf the earth, maybe that’s what the earth wants if it has a soul.
Otherwise if I consider the earth to be only the humans your view is fine. However if the earth were to include the other animals and plants, the so called, environment humans are changing, then it cannot be saved. It can only change in the direction set by the most powerful consumer(s) at the expense of the weaker.
There’s no turning back, the flood of humans is here and we are not about to stop ourselves as we do not have an inclusive consciousness, hence we exploit the weak amongst us and that must include other animals and plants.
‘We’ do not exist in any meaningful sense as most of use don’t have a say.
The animal biomass was all wild once upon a time, including humans, now we are 50% of the mass and 45% of the animal mass is bred for exploitation.
Many consider animals have no rights, or consciousness etc and maybe from some aspects a cows intelligence is not as demanding as a humans. So cows and dumber people do not shape the future, as they are in the chain of consuming and being consumed.
Saving us means increasing the security and safety for some at the expense of others.
The novel idea would be if each intelligent being left others to grow without exploiting the weak, the infirm, the poor, the different races, genders, animals, plants, minerals etc. So few people have such intent that this planet need not be saved for it serves it’s purpose for this ‘homo sapien’ experiment.
There are other planets more suitable where ‘mankind’ may grow a new environment, like Mars maybe, but until then this one is to be exploited to the full. If you think I’m crazy and thoughtless ask a cow. OH! I forgot they don’t have a voice, but I do.
Life as a consumer is not sustainable for those consumed and only 100 years for the consumer of external resources.
The novel idea isn’t novel at all, it’s been around for ever, it’s called the soul, immortal and a non consumer. Intelligent and expandable it is self sustaining and each of us can turn our mind to it’s development.
The planet is fine, it’s the soul of the individual that needs to let go of constant consumption and destruction employed to hide the fear of the future.
So who is the focus of my fairness and my fear, the cow or the crow.
