Fairphone gen. 6 price if it would not be fair

Hello everyone. I have one question (hopefully not a taboo  ):

How much would Fairphone gen. 6 cost if it would be made of regular (not so fair) meterials/components?

Not only the sourcing method for components makes the price.

Also there is the company size : apple, xiaomi or samsung (etc) can manage to buy components at a lower price because they buy millions pieces. FairPhone it’s ten thousands scale…

Plus, support cost money : you can’t promise 8 years software update and 5 years warranty if you sell ten thousands scale at low price.

You can find equivalent smartphones for 200 to 300€ if you check millions pieces selling brands, but if you brake screen it’ll cost you 200€ to change it and 100€ for a battery (repair shop), and you’ll get 2 years warranty, and 3 years update at best.

I think that’s hard to say, because there are more aspects in the equation. One of the strongest driver of the price is the low number of sold devices - so there is currently no real scale effect. That’s why the prices of the components are relatively high in comparison to the rest of the market.

Anyway, if you are interested in numbers, you can check Fairphone’s sustainability report.

The scale of production would certainly be much higher if the price of ā€œnot so fair made phoneā€ would be lower due to supply/demand laws. I was just curious how much more did I pay for my Fairphone only because of its fairness

Not to forget the living wage bonus of $1.20 per device. ^^
