Cool.
Da wünsche ich Euch natürlich gaaaanz viel Interesse und Gäste.
Have fun! Looking forward to photos!
A packed meeting totalling 15 people both with and without Fairphones. Many needed a first time introduction to the Fairphone project (and they got a thorough one via Douwe’s Fairphone presentation) and were given a hands-on approach to the FP2’s modular build. To allow everyone a look on the FP2’s internals, we split the group and both me and @amber guided newbies through complete Fairphone vivisections (ok, we did switch them off before ) on two devices. While this did not leave much time for new camera module trials, the meeting actually even made a few FP2 owners acquainted with the mere fact of the new cameras for the first time, with one wanting to order them as soon as they become available again. And another participant who couldn’t stay that long nevertheless really wanted to try the new camera module – but insisted on trying it in his own FP2 (and that’s what we did)! Not a trace of disassembly fear with these folks tonight And last but not least, FP1 owners joined us as well, with one – disappointed from the discontinuation of the FP1 battery and FP1 support – being grateful for the link to the Generic Battery forum thread. Oh, and we were even able to help out an FP2 owner whose long-awaited new display still required the necessary Fairphone OS update – another Fairphoner willingly shared his own FP2’s display with her until her FP2 update was completed.
I’m writing this right after walking home from the meeting, so you can estimate most people stayed until long after 22.00. With Düsseldorf host @amber present and enriching tonight’s meetup, surplus Fairphone materials and merchandise are travelling right now to the upcoming 14 October Düsseldorf meetup.
Very nice meetup and thank you @urs_lesse for holding a nice presentation with loads of Q&A. Thank you for everybody joining the meetup, and asking many questions, this is why we have these sessions.
Wow this looks amazing! I am just in the process of buying my first Fairphone. I’m from the UK, but living in Maastricht… just a hop & a skip from Aachen, so I’d love to join next time

Lots of (by now) familiar faces at our final 2017 meetup, including returning “founding members” still holding on to their trusty FP1s and FP1U as well as recent joiners allowing us to present the full FP2 slim case colour range to those pondering whether the FP2 is their (next) thing. Conversations ranged from the Fairphone cameras to the pros and cons of updating, from the pains of bloatware to the question if an ever slower smartphone (it was an iPhone!) can be rejuvenated by resetting it and also, from local history to the challenges of electric mobility in a country firmly under control of a fossil fuel-addicted car industry. While we didn’t reach the turnout of our public event in September, it was nevertheless a lively get-together totalling 9 people, 2 FP1s, 1 FP1U and 4 FP2s. The odds are good that the latter number will increase by christmas time.
See you again next year!

Once again my worries about low turnout were fortunately proven wrong. Seven Fairphoners were joined by a returning Fairphone(r’s) friend without a Fairphone and once again a longtime smartphone holdout (who had learned about the meeting through the newspaper, see above) considering the FP2 for her first smartphone ever. She knew no fear presenting her trusty old Siemens to us and seemed to look forward to future Aachen Fairphoners meetings. Meanwhile, the Fairphone Angel from Düsseldorf knew no fear either helping the Fairphone(r’s) friend getting back into his password-messed up trusty old Samsung.
All in all once again a very lively group that included a remarkable high share of first-smartphone Fairphoners, still a healthy mix of four FP2s (plus the Community Fairphone 2), three FP1s and the aforementioned Siemens & Samsung. The traditional CFP2 deconstruction ritual was once again performed to the interested eyes of a potential future FP2 owner, and the same device also donated it’s very vital organ, err-, bottom module (no worries @Douwe, just for a few minutes … ) for the sake of verifying the malfunctioning of another participant’s used potential future FP2’s bottom module.
Another nice Aachen Fairphoners get-together saw the final participants close the event after well more than three hours.
P.S.: Thanks to @Ingo @Stefan @Douwe @monica.c @fiorella and/or whoever kept advertising the meeting on Twitter and Facebook.
Euch erwartet diesmal die ein oder andere nette kleine Zugabe …
… und zwar nicht nur die beiden neuen Hüllen für das FP2 …

Brace yourself for a few nice little encores …
… and not just the Fairphone 2’s new cases …
A great and diverse group from Aachen, Cologne, the Netherlands and Belgium spent a three-hour evening on a packed Fairphone meetup full of questions & suggestions on the various OS options and how to eliminate Google from the FP2 as far as possible. Fairphoners „Geki“ Gert and @oli.sax charmed the meeting with magic & sax, and Olivier also tirelessly demonstrated Ubuntu Touch, Sailfish and B2G to all those on the edge of transitioning away from Google. To much acclaim, M. Olivier de Liège also introduced les Allemand.e.s to the concept of a „refill“ (and we’re not talking drinks here, we’re talking potato wedges!) – a request that was promptly fulfilled by our generous hosts tonight The restaurant owner had actually revealed himself as an FP2 owner prior to the official start of the evening …
The meetup would not have been complete without a ritual disassembly of the CFP2, not just attentively followed by several new Fairphoners, but replicated on their very own new FP2s. The Fairphone’s new transparent and black translucent clothes/cases were well received and re-combined with blue-button rims at will. Lots of information was shared, especially on the Troubleshooting-Tool, the Fairphone Forum and the next available Fairphone Angel(s) (@Lidwien you might hear from a Limburg Fairphoner soon ).
Calls for scheduling the next meetup were widely shared as well as the wish to hold it in the same Vegan venue … September 2018 was tentatively eyed.
I owe Olivier and Gert my greatest gratitude. Thanks as well to everyone (@Ingo, @Monica.Ciovica, @Stefan and probably a couple of others ) who kept advertising the Aachen meetup on Twitter, Facebook and the Fairphone event page and to our supportive hosts in the PZ–Pfannenzauber who provided a perfect venue for us!

Nice surprises: Both local newspapers publish the announcement (above) exactly when I wanted it – the first day after the school holidays (unfortunately omitting my contact address though). Even nicer: Our magic Fairphoner Gert prominently appears in the big article and photo right next to our announcement! … and on our meetup day a mini announcement in both papers again (below)Aachener Zeitung + Aachener Nachrichten 04.09.2018, S. 18:

Update 11:51 pm: Sorry folks, for the first time the Aachen host is too exhausted to write up a full report on the same night. Will write more tomorrow. The curious ones can find the numbers in the very first post.
OK, winding down took almost a day
Fairphone Community Aachen’s 11th meetup …
… was quite a demanding 3 1/2 hour night – both for myself as well as for Fairphone Angels from Düsseldorf and Liège who pretty much saved my, err…, very own bottom module, albeit to everyone’s biggest dismay not another longstanding and most loyal first hour Fairphoner’s all new FP2’s core module which remained stubbornly un-revivable.
Turnout well exceeded expectations with 18 people (12+2 having FP2s, 3+1 having FP1s, 5 without a FP) in attendance plus three short-time visitors who nevertheless had FP issues to deal with. One was actually offering her fully functional FP1 for free … because “there are no more batteries to buy!” So you can guess – we didn’t accept that! (And directed her to the well-known Generic battery topic, of course.) The FP1 was in fact a recurring topic during and even already before the meetup – two locals who could not make it that night had actually been put in touch beforehand in order to let another fully working FP1 change hands from a now FP2 owner to a smartphone virgin. And a returning participant from the 10th meetup was spontaneously equipped with another surplus FP1, having seen her own iPhone 5 take a dive just the day before.
A brief introduction around the table revealed that the newspaper announcements paid off big time: Most of the unprecedented attendance resulted from these, but to a smaller part also from having looked us up online (and to teach myself a lesson, the events web page was explicitly mentioned, too). Almost every second attendee joined us for the first time, so a brief introduction to the Fairphone project and its two main drivers – conflict minerals/fair trade and sustainability/repairability – was a must. Most of the planned agenda (Android 7, alternative OSes, Crowdloaning) had to be pushed aside given the abundance not just of questons, but to not mince words: a heavy and partly worrying load of FP2 troubleshooting as well. This host was confronted with quite a challenge and would not have coped with it had it not been for “Angels in Action”: @amber and @oli.sax who provided tireless assistance and support as well as Aachen Fairphoner Christian who had volunteered early to let me demonstrate the dis/reassembly of his FP2 to the eyes of the newbies. I owe you folks a big measure of gratitude, not just for making the way to Aachen, but to also show up and help despite not everyone of you being perfectly well last night. You took quite a load off my shoulders.
And although we were able to solve quite a couple of issues (one FP2 owner just needed a little encouragement to re-establish contact between her camera module and the core module by her own hands, another was helped switching from Ubuntu to Lineage), we also had a major disappointment when no one was able to fix a founding Aachen Fairphoner’s all-new FP2 respectively its core module. It will now travel back to Fairphone Support.
So all in all a mixed bag – great attendance with many new faces, yet on the other hand also a couple of issues that might not have given the best (but perhaps also not the most representative) impression to some newbies. Nevertheless, virtually everyone was happy to be included in our email list and seemed to look forward to future opportunities to meet up and get in touch. We are eyeing the second half of November for Meetup #12.
See you soon!
P.S.: Additional thanks to @lorahaspels @Monica.Ciovica @lina1 for not just providing a ton of fresh merchandise and tirelessly advertising the event on social media, but also for just bearing with me
Wow, congratulations to this bis success!
Who is this guy in the back with the white t-shirt? He shows up in different locations. He seems to be everywhere. Even at Fairphone’s HQ… #creepy In serious: I’m amazed by this enthusiasm. We should make a forum badge for being at [3/5/10] different meetups.
