Fairphone + Android: which App- oder Playstore is used?

Hi, I’m currently preparing a course for the Volkshochschule in Munich: “Android - aber sicher” (Android - but secure). I don’t just want to talk about Google phones, but also mention alternatives that are available. Including the Fairphone, of course.
Which app store does the Fairphone integrate with Android? FDroid? Or something else?
I’m happy to receive information that makes my course more interesting for the participants.

First of all marking @angels_munich in case they are interested in liaising. You might be interested to have a look at munich.fairphone.community, too.

Fairphone delivers their Fairphone 5 (and the Fairphone 4) with a Google certified Android which by default includes the Google Play Store (and the standard set of other Google apps). However, it is possible to switch a Fairphone to a custom ROM, i.e. an alternative Android with either no Google apps at all or Google apps to the degree you choose:

Some of these come with their own app store (e.g. Murena’s “App Lounge” that gives you anonymous access to both the Google Play Store and F-Droid). And some of those developing custom ROMs also sell Fairphones with their own ROM pre-installed.

In all my various OS implementations (Fairphone’s OpenOS; LineageOS, e/OS) I’ve been using the Google Play Store replacement ‘Aurora’ plus ‘F-Droid’ in parallel.
For FOSS apps F-droid, for those exclusively in the Google Play Store Aurora.
With that combination I’ve been quite satisfied for ~5 years.
Recently with Murena’s e/OS I use partly their App Lounge which is functionally a combination of Aurora+F-droid. But I have still the latter two installed in parallel.

And … welcome to the forum!
