From the very beginning Open Source software has been an important topic for Fairphone – it’s part of our history and DNA.
On every smartphone we produce and sell – we publish as much source code as we legally can. And we share all this information publicly with our users and community on our Fairphone Code Website.
As part of our ongoing Open Source journey we’re delighted to share updated source code, with which users can now build Android 14 images and flash them onto their Fairphone 3.
Fairphone 3 was launched in 2019 with a guaranteed five years of software support and spare parts availability. Today, seven years later, Fairphone announces the end of software support for Fairphone 3 and 3+. Extending the original promise by an additional two years proves Fairphone’s commitment to longevity and customer loyalty.
Going even further by bringing Android 14 to Fairphone 3 turned out to be infeasible. By publishing the source code of our efforts and supporting alternative operating systems like /e/OS or LineageOS, which currently provides Android 15, we enable users to prolong the life of their device even beyond official manufacturer support.

This build includes all components licensed under open-source agreements, excluding proprietary components. Please note that proprietary third-party applications, such as Google Mobile Services, are not included.
