I don’t have such text :frowning:

Thank you for your order!
Your payment has been successfully completed. Below you’ll find your receipt, which is also attached as a PDF.
To check the status of your order, simply log in to your Fairphone Account.

That’s all…
(But now: back on topic  )

The only place I can find my delivery number is in two places in this email:

EDIT: You have to look in the email with the invoice, not the order confirmation.

Apple or Samsung don’t take

Yes I understand the disappointments but for me the values of Fairphone are higher.

Right now, there are only black matte back covers at the distribution center, so these phones will be shipped first. As there will not be a shipment of another color next week, only black matte phones will be shipped before Christmas. Other colors will be shipped after (hopefully still in this year, the last week of December), and we will report this info on our blog once it’s certain these other back cover colors are on their way to the distribution center.

Unfortunately, it’s now too late for Fairphone 2 owners to change their back cover color preference. That would add too much complexity in the logistics and distribution process.

Sorry we can’t give more reliable numbers on how many phones will be produced in the future. We are giving updates three times per week on the blog, so that owners can keep up-to-date as soon as we here in Amsterdam get the information from China. My understanding is that this assembly line is still considered the “ramp-up phase” where the production is not fully stabilized yet. In other words - it’s not yet at the point where we can push a button and thousands of phones are produced as easily as they should be in the future.

In response to your question about delivery date estimations - I think we can give some estimation of when phones deliver (all pre-ordered phones will be delivered before the end of January). But a more specific estimation (like the first 1-5000 phones arrive in a certain week) is so dynamic that any estimates we give are changing day by day based on production, quality inspection, travel from China to NL, customs, processing and packing, and finally courier delivery and whether or not you’re home when the delivery man arrives.

Now, we’re about to post an update on the blog before the weekend. Any more questions, let me know.

Thanks for the update @anon90052001.

How long has the colour issue been known?

If I’d known about this, I would have amended my order in an instant, before it was too late Getting my phone sooner - even if only by a couple of days - is much more important to me.

I have been without a phone for a month now and was really hoping to have one to make speaking to family over the Christmas period easier.

Honestly?
If the delivery is late because a last minute change had to be done to the hardware, that’s unpleasent, but such things happen.
However that you haven’t been able to gather all backcovers by now is a totally different thing.

Of course Fairphone is not a professional mobile phone OEM, however I strongly hope that you use some kind of project management software for planing (MS Project, ProjectLibre or simply a spreadsheet) as well as supplier management, if so, you should have been aware of the fact, that there is a delay between delivery of the different cases and should have noted that fact as a bottle neck. Therefore you should have ordered them that way that all colors arrived in your office before the hardware.
What bothers me even more: Obviously the way you ordered the covers, the delay of fairphone delivery would have been the same even without the last minute hardware change - simply because you did not order the covers in time.

So allow me to ask some questions:

  • Why did you tell your customers that phones are to be send out on first come first served basis and that the color of the cover has no influence on this?
-> I would have been 100% happy with the black matte cover - I only selected the transparent blue, because I couldn’t decide and threw a dice. In case you had pointed out that the black matte back covered fairphones are delivered first, I would have ordered a black matte cover.
  • Any way to get my money back?
-> My old phone is completely broken since two weeks and I really need a new one. Normally (with order number around 2900) I should have received the phone around Christmas, now I am back to “no idea when I receive the phone”. I’d still like to get a fairphone, however I need a phone and if you can’t tell at least a rough estimated date, when the blue transparent phones are delivered, I have to buy me a new one to be reachable again.

I guess you can read between the lines, that I am really pissed of by your “not good planning”, so please give me a chance to calm down by giving me a fast and meaningful answer!

Thanks for this brilliant post! My thoughts exactly!!!

Thanks @joe for the bad news! I mean it - although of course as a “first day buyer” I would have liked to get my fairphone in 2015…

That looks great! Haven’t seen any hint, so maybe that’s very new? I know I will study this… I’m not a rom builder, but it’s never too late

It has been stated several times already on this forum: you can cancel your order and get your money back. Even after delivery, you have 14 days to send it back. Just look for it on the forum, I’m sure you will find a link to the right page somewhere!

Further on your post: I don’t think this change of delivery order was foreseeable. Otherwise I’m sure FP would have announced this a long time ago…

That might be true, but this would still show a lack of project and suppliers management competence.
The original plan was to send the first phones out in november, We’ve got 18th of december - this issue could have been handled or at least announced (keyword: transparency) much faster. :-/

Regarding “getting my money back” - thanks for pointing me the direction. I will wait until monday, hoping to get a reasonable answer from FP. After all there is a reason, why I initially paid the money for the FP2… :frowning:

I was tempted to cancel my order and buy a cheap phone with next day delivery from an online retailer when I first read the news. I didn’t though, because feel strongly about Fairphone’s aims. And I hope you can keep faith once the initial disappointment has settled down.

However, the debacle has made me lose some confidence in Fairphone and its ability to achieve its aims.

Communication has been really poor. For the most part, updates have been few and far between. Questions have not just gone unanswered - they’ve often been ignored, not even acknowledged. A simple ‘We don’t know yet but are trying to find out’ is really helpful and appreciated.

There have been more updates recent lately, and some of them have been excellent. However, many of them have been awfully ambiguous. They’ve almost felt like saying something for the sake of saying something, without actually revealing anything interesting or helpful. I think they are so scarred by not meeting promises previously that they’re scared to say anything at all now.

Why was the initial statement about colours so vague? Why did they need to be asked several times today to clarify that only black covers would be delivered before Christmas? If the colour issue was known, why did they not tell us until now? And if it wasn’t known, why don’t they say that?

I’ve invested a lot of money into a project which I wouldn’t see any return on for half a year. I fully understood that at the time, and still do. I appreciate that delays and issues were always likely. That’s fine. But the way the issues have been communicated - and my faith rewarded - feels a bit like a kick in the teeth.

If someone asked me a week ago to recommend a phone to buy, I’d have said Fairphone without hesitation. Now, I’d probably actively advise friends against buying a Fairphone for the next few months, until they’ve demonstrated that they can deliver properly.

I’m wondering why so many people call for more transparency. As far as I see, FP is as transparent as possible, given the human (and financial, and time) resources they have. Especially compared to every other smartphone producer.

Yes, ve’ve been waiting a long time. So what? We will get our phones in the end, it’s not like we’re being scammed…

I disagree. I really appreciate the transparency that has been shown - it’s fantastic and really interesting. But I do feel it’s fallen short on a number of occasions.

Nowhere in the below update does it state that there will be no coloured deliveries before Christmas. In fact, it goes out of its way not to say that. Why? It might be a small detail, but things like this add up and lead to real frustration.

As you can read in the production updates blog of today:

Currently the only batch available to ship are black matte covers. Other colors are soon to arrive, but only phones with black matte covers will be shipped before Christmas. We will be updating our blog next week with more news about when the other colors should arrive at the distribution center. Have a pleasant weekend, all!

True, it was only published today. But for me, that makes me think they didn’t (and couldn’t) know for sure before. Apparently, for you this makes you think they should have known before and communicate on it sooner. It comes down to a matter of trust, I expect.

In that case, tell us that. Nobody has said “Sorry, we didn’t know about this issue until today.”

Again, it’s just really ambiguous. You’re right, it is about trust, and that is running a little thin at the moment.

The question was directly asked over one week ago, too bad ignored:

Will the back cover type (color) have an impact to the delivery order?

joe:
Small update on the blog that the first (black matte) back covers are packed and ready to be shipped soon: https://www.fairphone.com/2015/12/10/fairphone-2-production-delivery-countdown/

Good spot. Backs up my claim about too many questions being ignored.
