Hi there. Half the apps on my Fairphone 5 are not working. I suspect it has something to do with the privacy setttings. Is there some information available about the risk concerned by allowing some of the trackers. I don’t know about most of them so i cannot assess the risks.
I would like to ask support but I noticed that they are not replying to anything and are only stalling.
I’m not sure I understand, can you add more details about which system is installed on your FP, which tracker you see where and how you block them?
I have the e/OS.
In the settings if i go to advanced privacy i see for every app what kind of trackers is blocked and toggle them. At the start everything is blocked but i don’t know for instance if blocking CQuotient or ThreatMetrix is a problem or not so i can’t determine if i can turn it off or not and if that can give some kind of problem i cannot see yet. So I’m curious if there is some more information about these trackers so i can better judge what to do.
I dont know exactly how the e/OS blocker works, however here you can search for Apps and see which tracker are included and also what each tracker does.
The risk I guess is something quite subjective.
Alternatively, in the advanced privacy app of eOS you can selectively exclude certain apps not to be blocked. See if this helps.
Edit: Same as Volker below. Never had any problems wit the tracker blocker
I’m rather surprised that blocking the trackers blocks “half of the apps” in your case!
I’ve also enabled (default) tracker blocking in /e/OS and none of my apps is affected.
Did you change the default blocking setting?
Do you have examples of (common) apps not working?
Do you also have “hide IP address” enabled in privacy settings? This might cause much more apps to not work properly…
Hello!
I’ve had a Fairphone with e/OS/ for quite some time and I haven’t encountered this problem yet.
