I wanted to discuss the possibility to have a “Eco friendly” mode.
It is known that 3G- 5G connectivity uses a lot of the battery. If you disconnect GSM internet any phone lasts for a week.
The google and alikes create android with the idea to consum 24Hours a day their services… The more people are connected the more revenues they get, very logical thing.
The proposed Eco friendly mode :
Activated all the time, even when plugged on power.
Use the same behaviour as battery mode
Plus adds the deconnexion of 3G/5G networks. And reconnect it every 15 minutes to synchronise stufs.
Slow charging if it would consum less energy (unsure of this one )
I think this would be an innovation in the field of software, that no other company than fairphone would want to bring and maintain.
Lets brand this “Fairphone Nature” of “Fairphone Eco”.
This will make a marketing shift from other brands.
I know that most of the CO2 is producing the phone, but hey helping on power consumption can help too.
Side effect : a computer device that heats less will last longer.
I guess this preferences won’t pass the Android certification tests. If you want a more eco-friendly Android try to use a custom rom without Google, imho.
Maybe someone wants even more aggressive saving modes while in one mode, why not offer different setting to wall plugged and while on battery.
