I was out on a canoe and dropped my Fairphone 4 into a lake about 6 dm deep. I could not find it for an hour so we went back home. We are thinking of going back to the place with a rake to try to find it tomorrow. How likely is it that it is salvegable? It was on when I dropped it. If there is no hope I’d rather buy a new one for it quite far away. Thanks!
I would say there is no hope. I don’t think many phones will last for such a long time in the water.
Very, very, very unlikely. But the probability is not entirely zero.
If you want to take this on as a nice outdoor adventure in the summertime, then I’d say go for it, and if you indeed get the phone out of the water, make sure to pay the closest attention to our waterwiki on how to handle the damage.
Even if the phone never works again, some of the modules might be salvaged. Also a phone recycled is better for the environment than at the bottom of a lake, so I would go for it!
And welcome to the forum by the way!
I took mine for a swim when I fell into the river Severn, no don’t ask how,it’s embarising. Complete right off. Plus Fair phone would not except it back for spares. Replaced with Fair Phone 5 a year later. Have given up cannal barging.
All the spares are electronics as well, those are fried as well You could offer it for recycling at some 3rd party, but that’s it.
