I’ve been using GCam for many months now. And I was very happy that you can change the double press gesture to any camera app you like.
However, I noticed that sometimes GCam would launch, sometimes the FP camera app would launch, and sometimes nothing would launch, and I’d get a Gcam has crashed error message.
I’ve managed to narrow down the behaviour.
When you install a second camera app, the phone will ask you which app you’d like the gesture to launch.
However, it asks you both when you do the gesture when the phone is unlocked, and also when the phone is locked.
These two seem to be two different defaults.
When doing the gesture on a locked phone, I have the option to tell the phone to always launch gcam. And it always works perfectly fine.
When the phone is unlocled, the FP camera is always the default option to choose for Always Open. Therefore, the UI doesn’t allow the user to tell the phone to always use gcam.
Going onto settings, default apps, and removing the fp camera app from defaults, causes this popup window to finally let the user pick gcam always. However, the gesture never launches the app, and after multiple tries, you get a Gcam has crashed error message.
Picture for demonstration purposes.
