Does FPs allow for calls to emergency number 112 via VoLTE in Sweden after 3G shutdown?

Hello All.

Today My FP3+ with comviq stop working for calls. Probably because not supporting Volte.

Just my 2 cents. Did you check in your SIM settings if VoLTE is available but not set to on at your phone?

It is probably because of Operators must ensure access to 112 – certain mobile phones will be blocked | PTS

I have a Fairphone 3+ and can’t receive or make any calls after 3G shutdown. My settings are set to LTE. I have comviq as my operator.

Is there a solution?

Assuming you are in sweden? I moved ypur post here.

VoLTE is enanbled?

However, it might not be available or work

As far as I know, your FP 3+ has been blocked because it can’t access the emergency number 112, even though you can make ordinary calls via VoLTE.

Seems as if you have two options:

(1) get a new phone (Comviq may offer you one if you renew your contract, probably a Samsung A17).

(2) switch to Telia. Their 2G network will not close until at the end of 2027.

If you want to stay with FP, no one knows for sure today if any FP model will work in Sweden when all 2G and 3G networks are shut down. First test will be in February, then we will see if any of the models FP4, 5, 6 will continue to work on Tele2, Telenor, 3.

Since from reading here in the forum I get the impression that the disaster with blocked phones in Australia now may repeat in Sweden and - going forward - in other countries, too, I wonder what that means when traveling. Will we now always have the risk that our phone may work in one country but not in the neighbor country? Or are there any exceptions in place for roaming devices? Most probably not, because travelers may rely on the ability to do emergency calls, too…?

The exeption for roaming devices in Australia is not worth the piece of paper used for it. All devices the provider “thinks” is not compatible are blocked. I had the hope that no one else is so stupid to copy this way. When they try to copy this stupid way with the shutdown in Germany i will visit them in Bonn. The question is why the providers are not forced to update their provider config. I know why it is much better to sell new devices and even better you can force the customer to the manufacterers you want. Isn’t that great?

Well, FP6 is “confirmed” as far as some operators are not warning its users (Telenor, Telia).

But if you use Tele2 or Comviq (someone mentioned Tre/3 as well) its a bit uncertain. I use Tele2(private) and Telenor (company) in my fp6 and it’s only Tele2 that has warned me that my phone is not “registered” as seen in my previous message:

Phone 0 - Tele2 (physical SIM)

  • IMS-registration: Not Registered
  • Voice over LTE: Available

Phone 1 -Telenor (eSIM)

  • IMS-registration: Registered
  • Voice over LTE: Available

When testing with Tele2s “test 112 calls” service it seems to work (call over 4GVolte) but they still wouldn’t confirm if it works after February.

The thing is in Australia are phones blocked which are full compatible. There is no test which the providers have to use so they block phones they think that they are not compatible. So it is kind of luck if your phone works or not. In Australia for example the FP5 works with Vodafone and Optus but not with Telstra. Hi!

Another post from Swedish user. Me and my wifes FP3 with eOS both stopped working now on Tele2 net. We just switched to Tele2 from Tre, since it was claimed Tele2 supported VoLTE on this phone. But it doesent…Out sons FP4 on Tele2 continues to work at the moment. The question about “112 calls” as i just learned about still prevails until February then, i guess. As i understand this Forum thread, we can keep the phones until 2027 using Telia in either case, so figure thats what we need to do for the FP3 phones. As mentioned earlier in the thread, this is a complete mess and madness! Bricking perfectly working phones “at will” from service providers.

What do you see when you check the diagnostics? shut off wifi—> *#*#4636#*#* –> “Phone information—> three dots—>IMS service status? I guesss your sons FP4 has a chance

My wife’s Moto G9+ has the IMS Service status Registered but she nevertheless has been notified by Tele2 that her phone will be blocked in February. So not sure that ‘Registered’ is a guarentee.

It seems to be a hit and miss, depending on the operators’ decisions (or guesses).

On me and my wifes FP3 it sats “not registered”. My sons (working) FP4 says “registered”. I will try to switch operator (again) to Telia. (Started with 3, currently on Tele2) and ser i that can get the FP3s back working. Interesting what will happen in Februari because of the PTS regulations about “must work calling 112 over 4G”, that have been written about in thus thread. I will report back after the switch to Telia.

Hi,
I was ni Sweden for the holidays with my FP4 and calls weren’t working. I had not read this thread while I was in Sweden and wondered if I had problems with my phone, if it was my custom rom, etc. I tried my SIM in my wife’s phone and it worked fine, so it wasn’t the sim-card. As soon as I left Sweden, I could call again…

I was on Tele2 when i did most of the testing. The other networks were not accessible to me and I didn’t try in a larger city where Telia would have been available.

Thanks for the information, @chrisse.

Since you wrote that you visited Sweden, I guess that you don’t have a contract with Tele2 but with another operator and were roaming on the Tele2 network?

As far as I understand, the shutdown of 2G/3G networks can have consequences for roaming.

Don’t know why you couldn’t roam on Telia, the network has pretty good coverage (not just the larger cities). Plus that their 2G/3G networks are still active.

However, as mentioned by @marst444, Tele2 doesn’t seem to have blocked FP4s generally,

I am using Comviq as my provider here in Sweden and have been getting warnings from them that my Fairphone won’t be able to operate after new year due to Sweden shutting down the 3G networks. I still thought that I’d be able to continue calling on the 4G network after reading posts here on the forum.

But now my phone won’t call or text anymore. 4G internet still works fine though.

Anybody here on the forum living in Sweden? What are your experiences? Are there any providers that still support Fairphone 3?

Hi, I moved your post here as it seems relevant. Please read above for the users experience in Sweden.

Hi
FP6 user in Sweden and Hallon (tre network) as provider. VoLTE works perfectly fine for me.

@commedia check you have voLTE enabled, just in case.
Some operators have been a bit nasty here. A friend with a xiaomi had the same issue and was solved by putting this code we found online (I guess xiaomi exclusive), as the setting was not even shown *#*#86583#*#*

Operators seem to be quite happy to sell you another phone rather than fixing or telling you how to proceed.

Your FP3 should work on the Telia network, which still has a functional 2G network (scheduled for shutdown late 2027).

@marst444 has also reported of a FP3 on Tele2 that no longer works with that provider.
