Yes with VoLTE enabled and available calls should work without 3G and 2G. You might be able to force LTE only in the IMS settings (4636) to test
In Sweden, all 2G and 3G networks are about to close down - some early next year, some at the end of 2027.
This means that phones that can’t make calls to 112 via VoLTE will be blocked by the operators, since the authorities overseeing networks demand that a phone connected to the network always can access the emergency number.
Does anyone know whether the FP4 is affected? It would be a sad waste of hardware having to ditch a perfectly working phone.
Presumably this is a software thing so might be fixed with an OS patch, but don’t know if the FP devs will be able to.
Hi! Ressurecting this topic as there’s been some developments. I will also try to look through the thread about Australia, but I want to start with asking here directly.
I have an FP3+ on LineageOS 22, and previously on LineageOS 17. My settings indicate VoLTE as enabled but I have been getting messages about no 4G support by my carrier, Comviq, since September, urging me to change my phone and telling me it does not support 4G. I talked to their support and they said if I have LTE enabled in settings, I should be fine. So I was relieved and thought it won’t be a issue.
However, just as we’re one week away from the deadline, I saw articles posted claiming that there’s devices that support 4G for normal calls but not emergency calls and that the Swedish Post & Telecom Authority is now telling operators that they have to block those phones completely, even if they support normal operation (example article in English: Sweden tells operators to block older phones that can't make emergency calls - Mobile Europe ).
I called the number to test out whether my phone supports 4G emergency calls and the answer I got was no. However, the matter seems convoluted and I’d like to double check, because my carrier might be wrong.
So, does the FP3+ support emergency calls over 4G? What does that depend on? Is there a way for me to check?
EDIT: The merging of threads made this post a bit confusing, sorry about that.
LOS can play a role here as well, otherwise FP lists provider supporting VoLTE. If you provider isnt listed there I guess and will be difficult. If you use a listed provider get in contact with support (FP and provider).

Australia, which is not supported at all, showed it could still work.

Well, I do know that the FP4 supports VoLTE, and so does my network provider (Telia). But the issue is another one:
Some mobile phones (e.g. my wifes Moto G9) supports VoLTE, but for some reason emergency calls to 112 are restricted to the 2G/3G networks. The providers do not offer lists of affected hardware, but my wife has been informed that her phone will be blocked next month (and the provider offers an exchange phone).
Generally this is said to affect ‘older’ phones, whatever that means. Some would consider the FP4 ‘older’. Or maybe the Android version matters (Moto G9 is stuck on Android 11).
BTW, what does LOS mean? Line of sight? Not an issue here, I think.
Indeed this isnt important for you, LOS=LineageOS=CustomROM
As said, I think best is to contact both FP and Provider support.
My provider is listed, as Comviq seems to just be a marketing name for some offering by Tele2. But mostly what I’m looking for is whether the FP3+ itself supports emergency calls via LTE. I’m trying to figure out whether there is a possibility that they are somehow incorrectly determining that my phone doesn’t support this, in order to avoid switching to a new phone unnecessarily.
After reading the relevant Australian thread, and also checking my IMS service status (which showed LTE as Unavailable, even though the Phone Info shows it as provisioned), I am uncertain whether I have LTE even if I’ve enabled it in settings, and I don’t believe that my provider will assist me with this, so I suppose I will probably have to switch to another phone (or to Telia, which is another provider that they say will continue to support the old networks for another year to give people more time). ![]()
I have a FP6, got an SMS from Tele2 that my phone wont be able to do proper emergency calls. Nervouc precautions? We’ll see.
I will create a new topic for all FPs and Sweden as we had for Australia.
That might mean that your phone will be blocked by Tele2 on Monday, Dec 1st! This since the authority overseeing networks (PTS) demands that a device connected to an operator must be able to make emergency calls to 112.
I’m on Telia with my FP4, so not affected yet. But worried when I hear that not even the FP6 will work with Tele2 after the 2G/3G shutdown.
Yep, thats what I fear. I have contactec Fairphone support (i didnt feel any confidence with their AI response) and i havent heard from Tele2 they are warning for the correct device; (confidence for Tele2? Not so much…) We will se…
My wife has a Moto G9 connected to Tele2 which will be blocked come Monday. She was offered a new phone for free if she extended her contract (should arrive Monday). I will then test her SIM card in my FP4. If my phone isn’t blocked, I guess this certifies that it will continue to function.
I do not trust the providers to know about FP’s detailed specifications. It might well be that they threatens to block them only because they don’t know whether they can handle emergency calls over VoLTE or not.

That is really disconcerting, I offhandedly assumed that the FP6 should support emergency calls via newer networks and ordered one after I gave up on hope that my FP3+ can be configured to do this. I just received and opened it (but not switched to it yet), so I would be very interested to know whether FP6 has emergency call support in Sweden. If not then that might be the end of Fairphones for me, unfortunately!
Note that phones that support VoLTE for normal calls won’t be blocked on Monday, on Monday is the deadline for phones that only support 2G/3G. Blocking phones that support 4G except for emergency calls is scheduled for the 2nd of February 2026, so there’s a bit of time left.
@p1ersson, have you called 225? It’s supposed to be a testing emergency number that tells you whether your phone is currently calling via 4G emergency calls or not.

I agree with this.
@reverse thank you for the tip, I called 225 and got the answer my (FP6l is calling via 4G and will work after2/3G. So useful in several ways ![]()
@p1ersson Glad to hear it! Thank you as well, I’m relieved for myself too!
Re. blocking; As I understand it, all Swedish networks except Telia will close down their 2G/3G networks come Monday December 1st. Telia’s 3G network will also close down, but their 2G network will be in use till late 2027.
Phones outside the Telia network that can automatically switch to Telia 2G for emergency calls will be blocked February 2026. Phones that switches to Telia 2G for emergency calls only if the SIM is removed will be blocked on Monday.
The interesting test will thus be in February. Which FPs (3, 4, 5, 6) will continue to work on networks other than Telia? I hope/expect Swedish FP owners will give feedback on this.
As said before, I don’t expect that the providers have full information about FP specifications. It could be a case of “We don’t know anything about this phone, so we’ll send out a warning.”
If so, the FP manufacturers should of course reach out to the providers with extensive technical information (e.g. which VoLTE bands the hardware can use).
Guess that the FP support is well aware of this issue. They ought to be. I’ll nevertheless try to raise the issue next week should I be able to get in touch with a human being on their chat line.
Tried calling 225 but only got a reply that the number is not in use. Maybe because I’m connected to Telia, not Tele2?
Unfortunately, you cannot delete a message.
Yes, this is a Tele2 service. Telia does not appear to offer such a test.
“(…)Vi har inte en specifik tjänst som Tele2:s 225-nummer för att testa om din mobil kan ringa nödsamtal via 4G/LTE. (…)”. [We do not have a specific service such as Tele2’s 225 number to test whether your mobile phone can make emergency calls via 4G/LTE.]
General answer: if your phone is 4G-compatible, it /should/ work. So, that means: “good luck!”.
