I just got my FP4 and was about to charge it with my steam deck charger, then I suddenly thought maybe I should make sure it’s not gonna overcharge the phone. I assume due to it being USB-C the circuit detects the amps and voltages and prevents it from selecting the full capability of the steam deck charger which is PD3.0 Type C power supply, 45W not sure on amps without looking ATM.
Just did some digging apparently according to one site the steam deck charger is 45W USB-C PD 3.0 (5V/3A, 9V/3A, 15V/3A, 20V/2.25A) - Steam Deck AC Adapter Review - Switch Chargers
So it does not go above 3A when the fairphone has a max of 4A? According to - https://support.fairphone.com/hc/en-us/articles/9839096704913-Charge-your-Phone#h_01G9YPPXBS2D0P15XZF8QAE4GY
So I should be good right? The phone supports quick charge pd 3 which this charger is. The phone when plugged in says charging rapidly also.
No worries, charger and phone are communicating and negotiating the max voltage and current both can handle. So you can’t overcharge, if you are not using a defective or non standard complying equipment.
I thought as much.
I just charged it to 90% just fine hopefully it’s all good.
In general, you don’t have to worry about USB. Either it’ll charge or it won’t. (though sometimes it might trickle charge instead, f.x. if you were to use the steam deck charger with a higher-powered USB-C laptop or a low-end cable with a modern phone)
