At first Display was working after water damage but not anymore after treatment with isoprop
My Fairphone 3+ took a dive in the toilet.
After drying for a couple of days and cleaning everything with isopropanol before reassembling, it did work, but had some “clouds” on the display, where the brightness was affected.
So following the guides online, I put just the display in a bath of isopropanol for a day and let it dry again for two days.
Unfortunatly now the display is not working at all.
The phone however is reacting and probably working due to the typical vibration when pushing the power button and the LED is turned on whilst charging. And because it was working fine on the trial before…
Is there any chance it might work again with a couple of days more to dry since it was actually working fine in the beginning?
Has anyone experienced something similar?
If anyone has a working display to sell or to try between Frankfurt and Cologne, you would be very welcome!
Multiple ones, even here on the forum suggested, that a bath of isopropanol would push out some of the remaining water, clean whatever impurities came in with the water in the first place and help the rest of the water evaporate more quickly.
Anyway, the damage from water damage comes not from the liquid itself but from the minerals in the water that corrode the contacts in electronics and can lead to short circuits. As Isopropanol does not contain minerals eg and evaporates quickly and completly, this should at least not have made it worse.
So my guess is that either the Isoprop instead of pushing out the water pushed it more inside and or I left it too long and something got dissolved inside.
Or third and best:
It is completly fine, but just needs to dry of the remaining moisture inside for a couple more days.
Someone here must for sure already experienced something similar?
(isopropyl) Alcohol will dissolve glue and other things inside the phone. i think they only mant to use a drop of it, or rinse it very shortly and dry it off directly after. Isopropyl alcohol is often used to remove the battery from a phone. or help opening it. (not the Fairphone ofcourse).
Ifixit tells its possible to dip the mainbord in isopropyl Alcohol. and is not talking about modules.
this is mainly for if you dropped your phone in saltwater i think.
Reading it now i can understand your misunderstanding. sorry to hear that happened to you.
luckily its only your screen that is effected, and it is relatief easy to replace a screen on a Fairphone.
Among others, yes.
I might have taken it a bit too far, but I am quite sure I read about actually putting the device in Isoprop.
Thanks for your time. I was wondering how simply brushing with isoprop would get it inside to replace the liquid as stated in the article.
There is liquid showing underneath the screen and it is definitely moving around the outer side of the display.
If it happens to actually dry off and work again, I am gonna update the post.
