Discussing the sustainability of removing the 3.5mm jack

As incanus has said that doesn’t exclude usb connected periferals. I imagine there would be more options with usb. So whereas you are correct in your ‘experience’ you could probably expand into the usb periferal world if that’s attractive enough.

No some sensors work better with analog 3.5mm analysis i imagine.

That doesn’t make sense. It would still have to go through ADC/DAC.

Sure some where it is digitalized, it has to be. I have seen some usb infrared adpaters but for the geiger sensor i have not found any as i imagine analysing the audio signal is easier than creating a whole specialized usb circuit and app for it. So perhaps a usb audio adapter may work? Who knows. My original point stands, 3.5mm is useful for more than audio.

If your app just uses microphone input to read a sensor, it might work just as well on a USB-C to 3.5mm adapter (depending on the DAC quality in the adapter.)
