Unfortunately, there is an issue with the protective case. The case edge is blocking the main switch. For instance, when you press the main switch twice to launch the camera using a shortcut, this edge gets in the way and makes it hard to press.
When I try cutting it myself, I get the impression that there are no major concerns about strength. At least by chamfering the edges, the operability of the main switch has improved significantly.
Since many members here will be using this for many years to come, I hope Fairphone team will consider that any usability issues will mean they’ll have to put up with that burden for a long time.
Yes, I used Dremel. I was worried that trimming it down would compromise the strength, but it’s actually a lot sturdier than I expected. I don’t know if it’ll hold up for another five or six years, though.
Thank you. Yes, Android 16 has the option. The puzzling thing for me is that the option was /already/ set to ‘open camera’ , but I had not stumbled on to the feature already.
I also intend to buy a protective case, but reading the reviews about this item, i decided not to buy one, because of the problems you have with this case.
I dont understand why they produce such an item that doesnt work well.

The side @beepbb has cut out for me it’s making it easier to get my finger in the right place for the finger sensor.
Also the main switch is protected by the case for unwanted touches.
Yes, it makes the phone bigger. But now the screen has some protection.
Without the case the phone feels a bit too slippery in my hand.
And this is exactly why the FP6 case is much better than for instance the FP5 case. It’s actually the first original case that we bought in our household after the one for the FP1. Having said that, it still has flaws (we only had the lost buttons issue so far).
After the FP1 and FP3 which both had (light blue) cases that covererd the WHOLE back of the phone except for the small camera windows - which is good when you’re outdoors in all weathers a lot, and also which have a high rim around the whole front I was ,surprised’ when I got the FP6 case.
2/3 of the back are not covered, and the rim on the front is discontinued, making it a bit wobbly. And - here comes another disappointing part - this is not mentioned in the shop. On the contrary.
When you look at the 5 available cases
you can see that the 3 models for FP4 and FP5 depicted are ,empty’, i.e. without a phone inside. However, both the simple FP6 case and the flipcase contain a phone, hiding the open backs.
When you look just at the normal FP6 case
you also are not shown the open back. So I have to say I find the way the FP6 cases are presented very un-fairphone-like.
For the moment I am keeping the case for lack of an alternative. But I hope that there will be an alternative with a full back and a full rim soon, if not by fairphone then maybe by some other shop.
I use a green one on my green FP6 for nearly a year now. The case is very sturdy and thicker as the original FP6 case, so it gives very good protection for a NetDot USB C device. Volume buttons work w/o any problem at all. At first the grip felt a tiny bit slippery but after a short time I got used to it. Overall I’m absolutely satisfied with the product.
I got my Tudia protective case today, it fits very well, (I also put in my new netdottech magnet, that was also no problem with the case.) So far it doesn’t feel slippery, and yes, it’s a bit bigger than the bikini case from fairphone, but it’s like the FP1 and FP3 case, so no problem there
btw when I got the case it came in a fairphone blue bag!! which is a colour they unfortunately don’t offer. the green lily is a bit of a disappointment, as it looks a bit more like bland light army green, but it will do for the moment, maybe at some later point I will go for the indigo blue or the matte black.
PS a small negative: you can either order the cases from usa with about 30 $ postage / tax, or you have to buy at amason (where it cost 21 €).
