Unfortunately, there is an issue with the protective case. The case edge is blocking the main switch. For instance, when you press the main switch twice to launch the camera using a shortcut, this edge gets in the way and makes it hard to press.
When I try cutting it myself, I get the impression that there are no major concerns about strength. At least by chamfering the edges, the operability of the main switch has improved significantly.
Since many members here will be using this for many years to come, I hope Fairphone team will consider that any usability issues will mean they’ll have to put up with that burden for a long time.
Yes, I used Dremel. I was worried that trimming it down would compromise the strength, but it’s actually a lot sturdier than I expected. I don’t know if it’ll hold up for another five or six years, though.
Thank you. Yes, Android 16 has the option. The puzzling thing for me is that the option was /already/ set to ‘open camera’ , but I had not stumbled on to the feature already.
I also intend to buy a protective case, but reading the reviews about this item, i decided not to buy one, because of the problems you have with this case.
I dont understand why they produce such an item that doesnt work well.
I am very happy with the protective case.
The side @beepbb has cut out for me it’s making it easier to get my finger in the right place for the finger sensor.
Also the main switch is protected by the case for unwanted touches.
Yes, it makes the phone bigger. But now the screen has some protection.
Without the case the phone feels a bit too slippery in my hand.
And this is exactly why the FP6 case is much better than for instance the FP5 case. It’s actually the first original case that we bought in our household after the one for the FP1. Having said that, it still has flaws (we only had the lost buttons issue so far).
