I can‘t access the website correctly, and no, it‘s not just uBlock that’s warning me that my personal data gets sold.
That website doesn’t host ANYTHING local. What the heck are „exponea.com“, „zdassets.com“ and „zingtree.com“? Of course, Google must spy on me (that can be blocked, and of course it IS). And I already knew that Zendesk earns my personal data as reward for support questions. But I don’t get it why some js files (and whatever else) can’t be hosted by Fairphone itself.
It‘s unbelievable that „disroot.org“ is hosted in the same country as Fairphone. One really cares about privacy and the other is saying it’s open without proof after the FP2 and instead doing the opposite.
Now the website is unreachable for me. What now? My FP4 isn’t worth a dime anymore. Why is it so hard to respect anyone’s privacy, safety and security, @fairphone? And yes, I just checked the privacy policy. It clearly states that my personal data is just something worth money.
I think I already did mention it: I will never again buy a Fairphone anymore - it isn’t „fair“ in any way. When there isn’t any privacy, safety and security left (in about 10 years, I think) and „Idiocrazy“ took over, maybe I will just take a rope and shoot myself with it.
By the way: There isn’t ONE SINGLE WAY to contact that folks responsible.
Murena does the de-googled /e/OS Fairphone, you might pay a little more, but it’s worth it in my opinion.
I don’t understand the rant; check their site for how it is considered Fair and if you want the privacy part, use /e/OS; nothing’s perfect though.
You could try Linux phones, but they lack new hardware, battery life, functionality, dedicated support and the extended warranty which Fairphone offers and they are intended for users with advanced Linux knowledge; don’t expect to stream videos or take pictures with one “out of the box” and your local mobile provider may not even support it. To enable mobile data, you will have to know your carrier’s APN settings as well.
Sometimes you have to compromise depending upon which features you need in a mobile device.
Well, at least the bootloader can be relocked with alternative private OS like CalyxOS - from that stand point the privacy of fairphones is okay-ish enough for folks who know what to do (yes its not for the masses yet).
But if you look at it logically, their main focus is fair-trade, materials, workers rights etc. And I would say only now with FP 5 they almost perfected it. I think you can’t do all at once. Maybe once they stabilize their hardware approach there will be more to explore.
I personally think that next step should be better software and support. Their Android has way too many bugs and the support doesn’t communicate well and the development doesn’t solve it fast enough (some bug still occuring since FP 5 been released). When they perfect this part, lots more people would be into fairphones = more money and then they can venture more in the privacy waters (and I think if they are successful, its inevitable).
“Exponea” is a marketing solution (tracking you), “zdassets” is part of Zendesk (company which handles Fairphone’s support), and “zingtree” is (I quote) an “AI enabled customer experience automation platform” (don’t ask me what that does, IMHO pretty little except sounding cool…).
Short version: zdassets is legitimate, it’s part of Fairphone’s support. Zingtree is superfluous but probably inoffensive, exponea is tracking the living daylight out of you.
(That been said, Fairphone doesn’t really care about privacy, their marketing shtick is “Fairness”.)
Thank you for this info, had not looked into it that much and my Brave-browser also does not warn me. Then again, I use Google for Email, Contacts and Calender. They can throw whatever advert at me, most is blocked by Gmail itself, the rest is blocked in Brave, so I hardly see any of that.
I don’t understand the point of uncontrolled rant. It’s ok that you can’t visit the website. As others have mentioned, you can buy the fp elsewhere, even degoogled ones.
If you hate FP so much, then sell yours. Used devices are still worth quite a bit on various sites. Why yours is no longer worth anything is probably due to its condition?
This is a community forum, you are welcome to express your opinion, but I think it could have been described with less emotion.
And, by the way:
To be clear, I also care about privacy, and it would be better if they wouldn’t track anyone.
Emotion has the specificity that it isn’t always controlled by reason…
I am prone to the occasional rant too, so I take it for what it is: Just letting steam off.
It’s a normal thing to do, the only difference is that, this being a forum, a normally temporally limited outburst keeps living on in a fossilized form.
Which (IMHO) is a good thing too, because it focus things and shows other people that a given topic has already been discussed. Instead of a dozen new threads “I’m so angry because…!!!”, you get one big one, where everybody can pour out his heart about that issue.
In short: We’re mostly human.
