I’m planning to buy a Fairphone, and was thinking of getting the /e/os murena version. I understand that most, if not all, of what I need will work, but am not sure about one app - intelligent hub, the vmware workspace ONE suite that I use to connect with my office environment (mail, calendar, chat…).
Does anyone here have experience with trying to set intelligent hub on an /e/os fairphone? Any tips?
Welcome to the community forum.
Intelligent Hub and the Workspace ONE Apps are requiring Google background services on the phone according to Aurora Store (relying on Plexus for this info).
/e/OS provides a compatibility layer for this which does a pretty good job overall, but please be aware that even if anybody could attest that everything you want to have works right now, nobody can guarantee that it stays this way in case of such Apps.
As is in the technical nature of a degoogled Android Custom ROM like /e/OS, compatibility with Google-dependent Apps can be there at one point in time and not be there at another point in time (until a fix comes, if possible).
So, the question you should ask yourself is: Can I manage without these Apps if/when they break on /e/OS for an uncertain amount of time?
If you can’t, /e/OS would be the wrong choice of OS for these use cases.
Thanks.
That makes sense, so perhaps for now my best choice would be to get the android phone and switch to /e/OS at a later time, when I won’t be needing Intelligent Hub.
Yes, this is possible of course, /e/OS can be installed later.
If you are not self-employed, a work phone from your employer might be another option.
Thanks again, I now have what I need to make a decision ![]()
