same problem on five different apps. reported when I sent my phone in to get fixed but still the same and the techies never menitoned it. So I don’t know if they didn’t look at the problem or if from a technical standpoint it’s not a problem. I did ask but of course no answer.
Since this post has got quite some attention, I wanted to second @Spielmops 's post. The steps outlined in this post do seem to work with any compass app (unless you actually have a broken compass, of course). Just start a compass app and move your phone in the way described in my post.
