Calls from CZ to Germany do not work (presumably) due to update to Android 14 & VoLTE)

I am frequently in CZ. So far I had no problems to call home to Germany. Now when I call after a short moment having a connection, the message in the call screen reads “server nicht erreichbar”. The sim is Freenet using Deutsche Telekom (without 5G). According to some info on the net, the cause may be related to Voice over LTE not correctly implemented between roaming partners. Unfortunately, the Fairphone 5 does not appear to have an option to turn this off. Before upgrading to Android 14, calls worked flawlessly. It also works without a problem with a second (e)sim from another provider (Vodafone).

The phone theoretically has the option to turn 4G off, however depending on the provider that might not be possible for whatever reason. I know this from a Wetell SIM (Vodafone Network) while in other phones with Wetell its different.

Thats with a SIM in the Telefonica Network

Edit:is 2 or 3G still availbale in CZ?

Mine looks different and does not have this option. Not sure if 2G & 3G are available, though I was using data on Edge sometimes. So 2G must be available.

When I asked FP reg the missing setting for my Wetell SIM they stated that this needs to be fixed by the Provider…would be interesting to now if the setting exist for other Telekom Network Provider/User

It’s almost a year since I’ve called from CZ with my FP5 (home network is O2 Germany). At that time it fell back to 3G or even 2G and the call quality was rather poor compared to what you’d get with VoLTE. So at least for me with my provider it switched back for calling although at home it used VoLTE. I’ll try to remember to make a call when I’m in CZ next time. But of course with a different provider it may look completely different…

I was in Praha in July. I had no problems with any calls i made from the Czech Republic to Germany. I use a Deutsche Telekom SIM and Roaming was in the T-Mobile CZ Network. Edit: I have 2G/3G networks disabled at my FP5 so it can only be VoLTE calls. Edit2: It was one week before the Android 14 update so i can’t say if it works with Android 14 like before.

The setting to disable 4G Calls is not available for me with a Deutsche Telekom SIM. So i think the only option to disable it, is to force the Phone to use the 2G network.

I’m not too surprised to read that the setting is gone for Telekom, as the additional Wifi-Calling settings vanished as well with A14

These options with Wifi Call doesn’t extist before and after the A14 update with Telekom SIM, i was a little bit surprised with my test o2 sim that there is a option to prefer Wifi Calling, if the device is connected to Wifi. It seems Telekom don’t want Wifi Callling when it’s not necessary. When the Signal is weak enough it changes to Wifi Call, but the signal must be very weak.

i understand this not same, but for info, FP5 with latest updates, in CZ, with T-Mobile CZ SIM have VoWiFi/WiFi_Calling working
