After years of having a stupidphone ( ) I was planning on buying the FP6 e/os on my upcoming trip to EU; however, lately I read some reviews complaining about the nonexistent customer service. Since the whole point is being able to use this phone for years to come, and since I’m not from the EU, I wonder if this decision is not too risky after all.
Fairphone not having a physical shop or selling point and the idea of me having to order it online is frightening to me, especially because I am a bit of a technophobe. Usually I am really big on having someone there to help me in-person and make sure everything is working fine before I leave.
I would love to hear your thoughts!
If your concern is Fairphone support, and if you can bring yourself to order online, then Murena are selling it themselves preinstalled with their /e/OS.
If you buy from them, they will handle the support … if they sell in your region.
Question of priorities.
In the end you need to feel comfortable with the solution you choose.
It’s too expensive here to choose a route you can’t fully get behind in your mind.
The support is getting better. For comparison, there has been a chat function staring from like 30 hours a week, the cut down to six (two days only), then non existent for a month and now, after the launch, it is offered 20 hours a week, daily.
Not sure when your trip is planned and where you are from but you can stay around and see how things are.
However please note the support is officially only offered in selected regions, EU mainly, so checking the resellers and partners as @AnotherElk mentioned might be a really good option.
Finally please note that it might be very difficult to get a spare battery shipped abroad if needed.
Thanks!
The reviews I’ve read where from the last month, days even, so I’m not sure about the service/support improvement…
I was planning on visiting France and Germany, maybe also Austria, around the end of July for about 2 weeks. Not sure how much more of information I will get by then…
Since i’m interested in the e/os version, and also want to buy spare parts (an extra battery just in case, as you noted) and accessories, I’m not sure if the resellers will provide a good-enough option. It is a bit confusing for me, I must say…
Sorry, missed the e/OS part.
Well, if you want to install it on your own, doesn’t matter where you get the phone from, if you want that preinstalled, I guess online FP or murena shops are the way to go.
I don’t wish to give any (more)misleading information as I do not much about Murena/eOS support so will not be contributing more to this thread.
Fingers crossed you find the perfect solution for you
This might be an option, however, then I think I would also lose the Murena support… Also, as I understand, the resellers do not sell spare parts and accessories - or do they?
