I have a Fairphone wall charger that I’ve had for almost six years (I bought it with my FP3), and, to be honest, it’s taken quite a few hits and falls.
Yesterday, when I unplugged it, part of it stayed in the wall, while the case stayed in my hand. I was a bit alarmed, fearing an electrical hazard or fire. I haven’t plugged it back in since.
My question is: is it dangerous to use it like this? Would it be possible (and safe) to glue the casing back to the plug base with some strong glue (like Loctite)? Or could it be dangerous and would it be better to throw it away? To be honest, I don’t know anything about electricity
Yes, and power adapters can also be quite dangerous even when they’re unplugged, never touch any of the electical components
If you decide to glue the case back on, you have to make absolutely sure that it can’t come off again, especially if other people / kids are likely to come in contact with it.
That’s what I was thinking, but I wasn’t sure about it. I’m afraid that the heat generated when charging the phone could melt or burn the glue, or that for some reason it needs to be insulated or special.
I definitely think it’s unsafe and that it’s best to get rid of the charger and try to get another one…
Had this with my old charger too. Fixed it with superglue, afterwards no problem whatsoever. The charger is now retired in behalf of the new FP chargers, which work well with all my devices.
Where did you exactly glued it? in the red circle part or in the blue circle part? I thought about doing it in the blue circle part… red circle seems where it was glued before, but it seems dangerous to put there superglue…
