Battery life expected

How long is my fp5 battery supposed to last? I’ve got this phone for 800 days now and if I turn off my phone at 25% battery level, it no longer turns on. If I connect the charger it says the battery is at 1%. Apparently the battery is up for replacement, which I’m my opinion is rather quick. What are my options? Warranty?

Hello
I am thinking about replacing my battery once it is 2,5 years old, even though it is nothing like you’re describing.
I can check it later but am pretty sure the warranty does not include battery wear or - if it does - not for pretty long.

Before the purchase, you can try calibrating or installing some external app to assess its health.

Thanks. I thought I’d ask here first, given the short life span.

Hi
I double checked. FP introduced an extended battery warranty for FP6, for FP5 the extended one does not include the battery.

Furthermore there is a passage

4.3.1 Normal wear and tear (battery capacity deterioration, eartips, coatings and other consumables etc.), unless the failure has occurred due to a defect in design, materials or workmanship;

They have also released the EU label for FP5 (but they didn’t have to so not sure how binding that is) which suggests battery endurance for 1300 cycles.

You may now decide whether there is a space to claim any unexpected defect. The Fairphone themselves suggest swapping the battery after around three years.

I’d first go for calibration - it must be explained somewhere in this forum, but the short explanation is: Let the phone turn off by itself due to low energy. Then charge it in one go from empty to 100% (so don’t turn it on in the meantime). In that way the charging electronics will learn (again) what full and empty mean on this battery. And yes, apps like Accubattery can do own measurements and show them which will give you an even better picture.
My FP5 is a few days older than yours and while I rarely do the experiment that you described (turn off at 25%), I can’t really say if the battery performance has become much worse over time, either. The Fairphone app proposes to go for a new battery after about 3 years, so depending on your usage it might be a normal life span or not.

Looks like my battery is at 241 cycles. I’ve just finished a complete deplete and load cycle, see what that brings. Thanks.

My phone is a similar age (810 day mark). I had enabled 80% maximum charge and slow charge enabled. I have used fast charge probably 10 times and don’t let charge get below 20% if I can help it. The android 15 update certainly shortened daily battery life but not to the extent I had noticed the last two months. I performed a calibration and the final charge to 100% was last night.

When I flipped my phone onto its back this morning I noticed a rocking motion. Upon ripping the back cover off, the battery was clearly swollen. It appears that the “calibration” has turned the battery into a beautiful spicy pillow. I have a new battery on its way but it will take a week (I have gone back to my Samdung S10 and it’s again obvious how much fairphone need to fix and I have just been accepting)

I would keep an eye on it as it seems you were having the same behaviour as I was.

Thanks. Mine seems fine so far, around 90% capacity. I’ll check the battery for bulges for sure
