Assign phone number to SIM card necessary?

general question after changing one of my 2 SIM cards (in FP2):
Do I need to assign the phone numbers in this menu?

Modern SIM cards generally have the number pre-programmed, but in my experience having no number there does not hurt (at least on older Android versions, it didn’t.)

Thanks for your responses. The number of the changed SIM card (s. screenshot) was “preinstalled” from the manufactor and serves probably – as mentioned – only for identifying purposes for the user.

It might also serve to identify you to Google, Android or other apps that track you and build usage profiles of your actions.
