Well the subject line pretty much is my question. Does anyone have any info about the timeline of tAndroid 15 and Fairphone?
After Android 16 is released
We just got Android 14. I wouldn’t be surprised if they will skip Android 15 and just release an update directly to Android 16.
But it will be a long time before we get it…
and google just announced a little while ago that they gonna advance to even the next major android release in an even quicker pace kind of twice a year, although only one api level upgrade a year (same as so far) if im not mistaken
I heard that LineageOS recently released Android 15 LOS FP5 - can anyone confirm if that’s true and if it’s working well on the Fairphone 5? The last LOS version I tried was Android 14, but I recently switched back to stock. I’m also wondering if the LOS Android 15 version could help the Fairphone 5 team accelerate the development of the stock FairphoneOS Android 15. I’m curious if anyone here would recommend switching back to LOS for Android 15. Thoughts?
sounds as a very good idea, it will take a while to solve all te bugs that come with a other big update.. so no android 15 no android 15 problems. go for 16 at once. saving a lot of work for Fairphone ho have already enough work on solving the problems in android 14.
wel that just my opinion.
Bump. Any update on when fp5 will get android 15?
The hearing aid issue just got solved so i think they are working hard on software for the fp5 right now so i think it will be there this summer.
I would assume different priorities
Android 15 for FP6 and FP4 first. Plus unblocking support queques
i will prefer that Fairphone skips android 15 for Fairphone 5. i hope we will see android 16 on the Fairphone 5 after some time.
That could save them some time, but I am not sure whether it’s the optimal strategy.
A marketing promise is 5 Android version upgrades. I remember vaguely some interviews saying that does not necessarily mean 5 consecutive upgrades but I would assume it might be confusing for buyers if they skip one that early.
I dont think it would save any time, A15 is available, A16 is not.
What I imagined was skipping all the work for A15 for now and working on A16 next year.
But as I said, it seems unlikely, and might be discouragin for current buyers.
I dont understand the reasoning, as I dont think it will free any time for any other projects like support, or FP4 and FP6 development as all those teams are to my knowledge project dedicated and not working on different projects simultanously.
Thanks for your insight. Perhaps I have misspoken.
Would keep my original post for the reference.
