Answering the phone delayed

I have a similar issue with the FP5. I’ll try to see if deleting the phone app cache solves it.

For the FP5 there is another solution. Turn off BT and you should be able to answer the call immediately when the phone is in use.

Thanks for the reply @yvmuell ! Do you have a link to a topic where this was discussed? All my search attempts failed to find anything on the issue.

I would not call this a solution. My phone is connected to BT all the time.

I dont think there was a topic now there is… Yes sure no final solution for this you have to contact support

Edit: for completeness the description of what happens for me and might be the issue here as well

When BT is enabled (irrespective if a device is connected) and a call is coming in, the pop up window to answer or decline the call is showing up delayed (screen unlocked) with 3rd or 4th ringing while the phone vibrates with the first ringing. Once I disable BT the pop-up window shows up with first ringing.

No issues when BT is enabled and screen locked.

Hi everyone.
I have the same issue.

The main purpose of a phone is (still) to make and receive calls. The fact a built-in feature (bluetooth, not an app!) break main feature is really bad for user experience. Specially today when headphones have to be connected with bluetooth.

I hope a solution will be soon available (even if after digging in this issue, Fairphone tech guys could not blaim BT. I don’t confirm i have the issue with BT, but that i can’t answer incoming calls because pop up windows shows up after 3 or 4 rings).

Same problem here. FP5 will vibrate on incoming call but will not let me answer the call during the first 4 rings (no pop up). Turning off BT “fixes” the problem but that is no fix of course. Quite problematic for a thing called phone.

It’s quite interesting that call notification issues and Bluetooth might be connected because I experienced the following 2 bugs. (FP5 android 14)

  1. When a call is coming in while the phone is in use (display is on and phone is unlocked) - it is not possible to accept the call. Critical and super annoying since it’s a basic function.
The call screen or push message on top of the screen is missing to answer the call. I can only tell by the ringtone there’s a call coming in. A workaround I found is to call a contact by myself while a call is coming in just to switch to the missing call screen. (Edit: the call notification might be just delayed like others reported)

  2. Quick settings are super slow sometimes. After a swipe down into these I mainly use the Bluetooth or flash light button. These are not responding for about 10-20 seconds sometimes. Super annoying in certain situations. For instance to connect to a Bluetooth device, I usually hold that Bluetooth button to open up the full Bluetooth menu to add new devices and with a not responding phone I’ll hold that button for ages.
Sometimes I hit the bluetooth button accidentally instead of the flashlight just to wait for 10 seconds in the dark lol

I have the same problem and its driving me nuts. It makes my phone utterly useless for calling. My friend also on fp5 has the same issues. I can’t believe there is still no fix for this after introduction of android 14.

Update: i found a solution in updating to android 15 on lineage OS custom rom. The problem is not present and I’m running this version for a few weeks now.

However this is not for everyone since it requires fair amount of tinkering to get all googly functions up and running again. LineageOS is an opensource custom rom but is not certified by uncle Google. Everything is working again now but it took unlocking bootloader, rooting via magisk and zygisk, and faking Google certification via module play integrity fix.

If this is not for it is best to hold tight for the soon coming official Fairphone Android 15 update.

If you use the Google calling app, and you get a call while using your phone: how long does it take for you for the call notification to actually be visible?

I get a ringtone vibration and my Fitbit SmartWatch gets it too, but I have to actually wait 10-20 seconds while everything’s ringing before being able to actually answer the call on my phone … Often through the notification finally coming up.

So please try it for yourself. Measure the time between you noticing someone is calling and your first possibility to actually pick up the call.

My data:

Germany, provider O2, through sub provider WinSIM. DualSIM in use, splitted settings, mobile data from physical SIM (different network Telekom, you can’t really use O2 for data efficiently in Germany), calls from eSIM. Incoming call to the eSIM not currently in use for data.

I guess you have Bluetooth enabled?

Yes, but not for speakers or headphones. That’s the way my Fitbit Sense connects to the Fairphone

Having BT enabled is the reason for the delay, even if no device would be connected.

Will search for the existing topic and merge.
