Android 15 is Now Rolling Out to Fairphone 4! 📲 (FP4.QREL.15.14.3.20250923075848)

Dear Fairphone community,

Today is the day. We are officially beginning the phased rollout of Android 15 on Fairphone 4, starting TONIGHT, October 27th.
As we had highlighted in an earlier post, we are skipping Android 14 and going straight to Android 15, to ensure Fairphone 4 owners can enjoy an even more up-to-date Android experience on their device.
Credits go to our tireless software team, who had to coordinate with multiple external partners, while spending countless hours developing and testing this new version.

I would also like to thank all the Fairphone 4 Beta Testers here on the Forum! This would have not been possible without you.

A big thanks also goes to all Fairphone 4 owners who have stayed with us throughout this long journey, and we sincerely appreciate your trust and dedication through this process. It’s your continued support that helps us do what we do, and inspires us to do more.

“How do I update my device?”
As with all major releases, the rollout is happening in phases to ensure stability. If you don’t see the notification immediately, please rest assured it’s on its way and will arrive over the coming days and weeks. When it’s time, a notification will pop up on your phone, asking you to update. Click Update Now and your Fairphone 4 should take care of the rest.

Software Version Information:

  • Model: Fairphone 4 (FP4)

  • New OS Version: Android 15

  • Software Version: FP4.QREL.15.14.3.20250923075848

  • Security Patch Level: 5th of October, 2025

  • Update Size (Approx.): 1,593.16 MB (may vary based on current software version)

:sparkles: New Features: :sparkles:

:locked: Private Space

Your phone now features a secure digital safe – a private space with an extra layer of authentication. This keeps sensitive apps, such as social, dating, or banking apps, hidden from view. When locked, apps within this private space are invisible in the Recents screen, notifications, settings, and to other apps, ensuring complete privacy.

:key: Passkeys integration

Fairphone 4 now supports Passkeys, building on their introduction in Android 14 and the one-tap sign-in updates in Android 15. Passkeys offer a smooth sign-in process for apps and websites by utilizing your device’s built-in authentication. You can link a third-party password manager that supports passkeys through your device settings. Please note that not all apps and websites currently support passkeys.

:ninja: Theft Detection & more

Android 15 introduces enhanced Theft Protection, a centralized hub for proactive security features designed to safeguard your device and data. These features deter theft and facilitate quick recovery if your device is stolen.

:locked_with_key: Key security enhancements include:

  • Failed Authentication Lock: Your device will lock and require authentication after five unsuccessful login attempts.

  • Factory Reset Protection: A PIN or biometric authentication is now required to perform a factory reset.

  • Unauthorized Access Restrictions: Authentication is necessary to modify USB access, extend screen timeout, or remove an eSIM.

  • Theft Motion Lock: The device automatically locks if a “grab-and-run” motion is detected.

  • Device Offline Lock: If your device remains disconnected from the Find My Device network for 15 minutes, it will automatically lock.

  • Remote Quick Lock: In the event of a missing device, you can lock it instantly by visiting google.com/android/find/lock and entering your phone number, without needing to sign in.

:white_check_mark: Quality of Life Improvements:

  • Option to increase contrast

  • Disable sending device name wifi

  • Partial Screen Recording

  • Interactive control center Bluetooth panel

  • App Archiving

  • Set your default wallet app

  • Option to remove search bar from home screen (Settings > Display > Search bar and reboot)

Upgrade to Android 15 went well on my Fairphone 4.

Update was smooth. Nothing to report so far.

Well done Fairphone - it would have been easy to draw a line under this and put it in the too-hard basket. Faith in Fairphone restored!

Many, many thanks to all people who made this upgrade possible.

Thanks for all the effort to bring Android 15 to the FP4! Update worked just fine on my end.

Updated without problems, including Magisk patching

Lucky you, for me - as usual - the direct repatching of Magisk was not working with this upgrade like with any other before :frowning:
EDIT: Does anyone have the boot.img of the A15 update for me?

EDIT2: Also I am a bit unhappy that the kernel version is still 4.19. I was hoping for an update of the kernel, too.

No major issues with the update  . The only thing I encountered is that all my bluetooth devices were no longer paired…

Bit the bullet as well just now, and also encountered no issues. Thumbs up!

Unfortunately, once again, the download for the files is missing from the rollout https://support.fairphone.com/hc/en-us/articles/18896094650513-How-to-manually-install-Android-on-your-Fairphone#01HB8ZZ1BMMQNSNMFT3YXDBXA0 for the manual installation.

Had to make update twice, but then it worked!

@Fairphone_CM this has been reported as solved during the beta…

FP support told me that kernel upgrade would be too hard. We’ll stay with 4.19 until the end, it seems. But they’ve recently manually added/backported some drivers (I think USB-Ethernet, but not the 2.5 Gbps modules).
