As a general rule, itās always best to apply an update when itās offered on your device. Thatās why we have updates.
However I would advise to always wait for the update to be offered. You can check for updates by going to
Settings > System > System updates > Check for update
If your phone doesnāt see an update, then thereās probably a good reason, and itās best to be patient. If in doubt, you can check with official Fairphone support, see contactsupport and / or your network operator.
You should install Security patches immediately when available, given Fairphone waits a month or two before releasing them, giving hackers a comfortable head start⦠Security patches are different from other updates, see my detailed explanation here.
As for the Android 15 (not 14) update, I would wait before getting it, because it has currently two rather nasty bugs: Firstly random reboots, and secondly a Launcher problem specifically for those living or having visited France, the Netherlands and some other European countries. You sound French (āAZERTYā, āseptembreā ), so you would be hit with both barrelsā¦
Unfortunately the NovemberSecuritypatches for the FP4 are inside that buggy A15 update, which means FP4 owners have the choice of either risking an unusable phone, or risking to be shut out of banking and corporate VPNs. What one calls ābeing stuck between a rock and a hard placeāā¦
Anyone notice problems with voip apps? We have several FP4ās and the one that is on android 15 is having problems with the voip app sounding garbage (constantly interrupted audio) for the first minute of the call
The phone in question that is on android 15 (the other fp4ās are on android 13 still) doesnāt have sim, so can only do wifi.
(none of our other fp4ās on 13 or fp5ās on 15 have this problem. and Our wifi accesspoints are normal high quality unifi ones)
The first is a good one: there was a very annoying bug with the eSIM, which now seems to be vanished.
The second one is a bit odd: My first SIM is only to make phone calls, mobile data is deactivated. But now, the signal strength icon shows an exclamation mark, calls are still possible. Itās a kind of comprehensible, but wasnāt the case for A13.
To my knowledge the initial Android 15 update (the one this topics is about) was held back for users of Orange. The next update for A15 will include one or more fixes and then Orange users will receive A15, too. But I donāt know a date for that.
Hey @Ingo , I am using orange network (via hey! telecom). It seems they were bocking the update until I disabled their SIM card temporarily and rechecked for update via WiFi. I think Proximus might be doing same, either slow to deploy or saving money on user support as default Quickstep launcher has known issues after the update..
After installing the A15 update on my F4, the phone call app simply wonāt work properly. I have to try three or more times to make a phone call. What could be the issue?
Also, the data connection also seems to have become more unstable after the update.
Iām sorry to hear that you are experiencing issues after the A15 update. You should certainly report those issues to official FP support https://support.fairphone.com
Here this is a community forum where users help eachother , provide advice and discuss. When asking for help itās always useful to indicate your OS build number and any other information that may be pertinent such as your country and operator.
Have you discussed the call and data problems with your operator?
