I think they actually have done things, so the intention is there, its just absolutely not at all visible for us, especially here we surely read more about the extrem delays. So yeah any PR Marketing bla isnt what people want to see I think, they want to see a clear plan and numbers going down.
Same here, I also (still) believe them having done some changes. And I understand that it will take some time to get response times down, as there are many old tickets to process, and with a newly released device, probably many more new tickets. And new staff first needs to learn.
Yet, having had that initial announcement in this thread in May, that are 3 months now already and the waiting times don’t seem to improve at all. They may have tried, but not hard enough.
While I’m certain they are also very aware of the fact that such a horrible support hurts the brand, I sometimes start to question on how willing they are to actually make a difference. Sad to see this continuing for so long. Luckily, I don’t have any urgent problems with my phone so far.
Thanks for requesting feedback here in the forum again and again @yvmuell!
All in all, I am just very happy to hear that I might still be able to use my FP4 past the official Android 13 security support window.
As any newer Android version also will extend that security window.
I need the official security patch system on Android to be fairly up to date, or some of the core apps that I use (like for electronic payment and government communication), will otherwise NOT run on my phone.
I originally bought a Fairphone4 because it seemed to have a good and long support schedule, for the official security patches to continually to be offered.
And I was getting a little worried because the official security support for Android 13 only seem to have some months left.
So I very much hope that the developers will succeed in getting an Android version beyond 13, to work for the FP4
I’d suggest you wait for it to actually happen. At this point promises are not worth much.
That been said you raise an interesting point: How much does the warranty period require the phone to be fit for use?… One could argue that not being able to pay (use the bank’s verification app) or use online banking removes a serious part of the phone’s usability, since it requires you to buy a second phone. On the other hand one could also argue that a phone is first and foremost a tool to make calls, and as long as this is still possible it is legally deemed functional.![]()
I have a couple lawyers in my family, I’ll ask them as soon as they come back from their vacation.
All this is several months away and pretty sure will never apply for the FP4, so way would anyone think about this now?
Well, some don’t share your conviction on the subject. I for one have learned from 3 years of Fairphone to only believe what I actually see happening: A lot has been said only to be subsequently modified. Sorry.
If that Android 15 upgrade comes, consider it just idle talk. If not…
Hello Fairphone,
What is the current status? So after five months?
Steven
Hi @Alon_Brandt are there any news on Android 15 on Fairphone 4?
This is just becoming a joke more and more. The open letter has been closed again ![]()
Quote: “We’re now actively working on bringing Android 15 to the Fairphone 4 and will keep you updated as we make progress.” —> 5 months later and no update whatsoever. Can we conclude this means there has been no progress at all with Android 15 on the FP4?
Quote: “but on anything else that’s top of mind for the community. Even if it’s just a small check-in or an update that says “still working on it,” we’ll share it. We get it now: silence doesn’t help. We can do better. So that’s what we’re committing to.” –> How exactly does keeping mum for 5 months fit FP’s commitment?
So all this PR speak is just that. PR. Nothing more…
Although I agree with your post, there was 1 update…
