Adaptive/slow charging for FP4

Apparently, iOS and some Android phones have this feature and there is a closed thread about it here:Adaptive Charging (slow charging to extend battery life)
Can anyone now recommend an app which will allow adaptive charging?

If you have your phone rooted, you can use this app.
https://f-droid.org/packages/mattecarra.accapp/
I use it since years and I can especially recommends the settings “Capacity Control”, “Temperature Control”, “Reset battery stats on pause” and “Charging power control: Max Current (mA)”. I don’t recommends touching the “Max Voltage (millivolts)” setting, because this has quite complicated consequences.
Operating system based support usually hides these details and instead offers a simple setting, which is already tuned to the specific battery in your phone.

.

Without root or operating system support, you have only limited options.

The simplest thing is to use an old power plug (AC) adapter, supplying only standard USB 2.0 5 V and 500 mA. This will charge your battery slowly and gently with max. 2.5 W.

Seems those might be common to run USB lights, so the LED isn’t destroyed by too much power.

Additionally there are apps which notify you, if the battery is below 20 %. So you’re reminded to charge it soon, because letting the battery drop below 20 % will reduce it’s long term health.

Those apps can also notify you once the battery is loaded above 80 %. So you have a chance to unplug the phone, to prevent charging to higher, non healthy energy levels. But I can only recommend this partially, because there’s a good thing about keeping your phone connected to the power plug. As long as your phone is connected to power plug, it’ll draw it’s present power consumption from the power plug and not from the battery. And the battery also ages by the amount of power that went trough it. So if your phone receives it’s energy directly from the power plug, that will keep the battery healthy too. So the best solution here is really, if your operating system or a root-based app actually stops the charging at 80 %, so you can keep your phone connected to the power plug if you don’t need to carry it around momentarily.

I can vouch for ACCA from F-droid, been using it for months and its stable.

I also use the “Prioritize battery idle mode”, so that I can put it on the charger to not let the battery be drained, but not get it charged either until the end of the day.
But this function is a bit unstable on my FP4, as it seemingly is only working on every 2nd boot. When it doesnt work, it just constantly enables and disables charging (visible from the measured “Current Now”), and I dont think thats too healthy, so after a reboot I check it if its working properly.

Thanks to kolAflash and mpeter for their suggestions. I am running Android 13 and doubt if I shall attempt to root my FP4.
I suppose the upside is that I can replace the battery if it fails.
