I think Mathias has a Point but not polite enough.
I’m very disappointet from fairphone. Still no Response on the Support Ticket. I found a solution Here which Work but i am a tech Guy.
I’m more then unhappy with the communication. The Phone is USELESS without the workaround. Thials is serious for the people Here!
I don’t want to be rude, but people constantly ask me to write in English. my German autocorrect only makes this more difficult. Constantly asking me about it is just annoying. You can all just as easily use a translator as I can if I don’t understand something specific. where is the problem? The problem in this chat only affects people in the German Telekom network to whom it was addressed.
You don’t have to write in English. Just open a new German topic about your problem.
Hi everyone,
I’ve also encountered an issue with my eSIM from Congstar not functioning properly after the latest software update. Post-reboot, the eSIM is active for about 5 to 60 seconds before it shuts off. When I attempt to re-enable it, I receive an error: “Can’t disable carrier - Something went wrong and your carrier could not be disabled.” I’ve tried reinstalling the eSIM profile and rebooting multiple times, but the problem persists.
Also opened a ticket yesterday.
Best regards,
Moxel
Same issue here with eSim and Carrier Congstrar/Deutsche Telekom.
I was wondering if it only hit me, so thanks to the forum I can be patient and apply the, hopefully temporary, workaround disabling 5G (another 3€ down the drain for the extra with the carrier)
Just got my ticket answered. They have NO clue about the faulty patch and suggest missleading things. @yvmuell and @anon1128606 Could you please check that. This will guide other customers in the totally wrong way.
@yvmuell is not a FP employee but I am adding the Community FP, @anna_jopp . Perhaps you could share with us the support reply or, else, direct them to this thread.
I hope the fix will be soon released.
Sure:
I’m sorry you are experiencing mobile data issues with your Fairphone 5, let’s look into this!
Make sure the phone recognises your SIM card and you are able to make and receive phone calls. If one or both of these assumptions are not true, disregard the rest of the message and let me know.
If the device recognizes the SIM card and you can make calls, proceed with the below steps.
Your APN settings affect how your Fairphone 5 connects with the network. To check if they are causing issues:
Note, you’ll need to do this step separately for each SIM card you’re using, including eSIMs.
If the issues persist, the phone might be trying to connect using a network protocol that is not supported by your contract.
These technologies are used for high quality phone calls, however sometimes they can have a negative effect on network connectivity.
Test again. If the issue remains, continue with the next step.
Your Fairphone 5 uses the default SIM card for mobile data. So, if you’re using two SIM cards, you will need to set your preferences:
You can read this support article for more information on this.
Borrow a couple of SIM cards from family members or friends and test them on your device. It’s best if you try with at least one card from the same provider and one from a different provider. Make sure to go through all the steps you already tried with your own SIM card.
If you get a data connection, something is wrong with either your SIM card or your contract/data plan. Please, contact your provider if that’s the case.
Does you SIM card work in another phone? Let me know.
Make sure your Fairphone 5 connects to the right network:
Get in touch with your network operator and ask if there are any issues on their network in your area (local antenna might be broken or eSIM services might be down).
If you only have issues connecting to 5G mobile data:
If you have issues connecting to mobile data via an eSIM card:
To exclude the possibility of a corrupted third-party software:
If you have any other questions or concerns, please let me know, I will be more than happy to help you further.
The standard, unless you really insist to know the issue and link topics and insist they read it… Even then you might get this, as its the standard process they have to follow I guess So if you told them its with recent update and Telekom Germany, it would be really good support staff is made aware of such things. Not the first time they are behind in knowledge and a waste of time for them and the consumer.
Hi @foobn, thank you for flagging this. I checked with my colleagues internally - they say they made sure yesterday already that everyone will be aware of this going forward. Apologies for the trouble this has caused you!
(english below)
I also had the problem with the Telekom network flapping. But I was able to fix this by switching from 2G/3G/LTE/5G to 2G/3G/LTE after every (?) restart. In the first attempt, the Fairphone first did Edge, then back to 5G it stayed that way. In a second attempt it switched to LTE(+), where I left it. The Telekom network still uses 5G NSA anyway, so there is no real advantage with 5G.
There is only one 5G NSA combination which causes the problem. LTE Band 3 in combination with 5G Band n1. All other 5G NSA combinations in the Deutsche Telekom Network work fine. Not every cell use this combination. In bigger cities the combination with n78 is very common. So if you are only in areas where this frequency combination is not used you can use 5G without problems. The problem is outside of cities B3/n1 is used very often in the Deutsche Telekom Network. I really hope they fix it with the Dezember update next week. If not this was my first and last Fairphone. I cannot use 5G for two weeks and this is to long for a fault which is built in with an update. As example for me the difference is 100mbit/s. With 5G NSA i have 330Mbit/s with LTE only 220mbit/s. I use this high data throughpout if i want to download big files on the PC because my cable internet is restricted to 100mbit/s. With unlimited data volume it is no problem to use it as cable replacement. I’m a little bit pissed of that it takes that long to fix such a critical failure :/.
The same anwser they wrote to me after reporting the issue to fairphone.
They shut fix this 5G problem soon, because we all payed enough money for the Fairphone and want to use it without restrictions!
If there is no solution from Fairphone by the end of January 2024, i will return it and, if necessary, with legal force.
Same for me. If there IS not an quick fix i’m going to a full refund.
BTW: as i write above lte b3 + 5g n1 works for me with T-Mobile Czech, so not FP5 problem with b3+n1 in general, but in combination with Deutche Telecom…
If you read my complete reply you will see that i write only in the Deutsche Telekom network. It’s nice for you in the Czech Republik, that it work but in Germany in the Deutsche Telekom Network it don’t work. The CA Combination B1/B3 even works only B3/n1 not why ever. It has to be fixed soon.
Edit: And no it’s not a provider problem the IPhone works with this combination at the same cell without any problem
Well it still is or can be a provider problem, as also the provider has to do the needful at their end to ensure a phone works properly with their network, so in such cases I would always contact both, FP as well provider to ensure its being worked on.
Why i should contact the provider when it is clear that a faulty update cause the problem. Before the update all works fine. After it this band combination don’t work anymore. The fault is clear at the Fairphone side. I hope on the next update if it don’t fixes this i will get a new Iphone. Before the Fairphone, the Gigaset GX6 modem was a big dissapointment. The main argument for me, for the Fairphone, was the changeable battery and the qualcomm chipset. With the IPhone, the CAT S60 and S61 before i have no problem with faulty modems.
Thats for sure a bit out of context still applies in general, network compatibility tests are not only with Fairphone, what you do with this is your decision, I only stated what I would do if I would be effected
