14 Reasons Why You'll Love Fairphone's Audio Range

For those of you who don’t know this already, Fairphone doesn’t just make smartphones. It was in 2021 that we took our first steps into the world of sustainable audio, releasing the Fairphone TWS earbuds. And while they boasted a longer battery life than the competition and used Fairtrade gold in the supply chain, they still featured an ‘off-the-shelf’ design that wasn’t repairable. So we went back to the drawing board and started tinkering the idea of making truly sustainable audio products that were more in line with our design philosophy. The result? The Fairbuds and the Fairbuds XL. They’re both big on sound, and even bigger on impact. Here are 14 reasons why you’ll fall in love with them.

    • They are fully repairable
Our Fairbuds range features our signature modular design, meaning you can replace the stuff inside instead of tossing them if something stops working. From individual earbuds to batteries to headbands, everything’s replaceable.
    • They sound excellent
Caring about the planet shouldn’t mean compromising on quality. Both the Fairbuds and Fairbuds XL deliver a rich and balanced sound profile, thanks to titanium-coated dynamic drivers that reproduce high fidelity with zero distortion.
    • They let you own your sound
Use the Fairbuds app (compatible with iOS and Android) to customize your EQ settings and truly own your sound. The app is also where you can download the latest firmware updates, or look up DIY manuals on switching parts in and out.
    • They let you own your space
Switch to ambient mode and let the world in, or choose active noise cancellation (ANC) to tune out distractions and focus on what matters—whether it’s your playlist or your thoughts.
    • They are crystal clear
Miscommunication is a thing of the past with the Fairbuds range. With features like advanced wind reduction, environmental noise cancellation, and arrays of multiple mics onboard, you’ll hear everything loud and clear every time.
    • They are comfortable all day
They sound great and feel great. From the over-ear softness of the Fairbuds XL to the lightweight fit of the Fairbuds, you can tell comfort was key to their design. Great sound shouldn’t hurt your ears.
    • They also run comfortably all day
No one likes running out of juice mid-song. The Fairbuds XL lasts up to 30 hours, while Fairbuds easily lasts more than a day. If you’re in a bind, charge the Fairbuds for just ten minutes, and you’ll an hour and a half of playback time. Talk about epic battery life.
    • Speaking of runs…
Hitting the gym? Going for a run? No problem. Both our Fairbuds and Fairbuds XL are IP54-rated for dust and sweat, built to handle whatever everyday life throws at them with ease.
    • They are super easy to use
Tap, swipe, or press—our intuitive controls make it easy to manage your music, calls, and ANC settings on the go.
    • They work with any Bluetooth-enabled device
You don’t need to own a Fairphone to use a pair of Fairbuds or Fairbuds XL. They’re compatible with any Bluetooth device, be it Apple, Android, Windows or anything else. They also have dual-point connectivity, which means you can seamlessly switch between your phone, laptop, and tablet without the hassle of disconnecting and reconnecting.
    • They come with a three-year warranty
Because accidents happen. And in case one does, you can always rest assured that we have your back. Although, thanks to their modular design, the Fairbuds and Fairbuds XL should last WAAAAY longer than three years.
    • They are (partly) made with fair and recycled materials
Like everything we do at Fairphone, our audio products are made with fairer materials, with a focus on ethical sourcing and sustainability. This includes recycled plastics and aluminium, and Fairtrade Gold integrated in the supply chain. So you can listen with a clear conscience.
    • The people who make them are taken care of
We partner with ethical factories and fair labor initiatives to improve working conditions and wages for the people who make your audio gear. Our commitment to living wage bonuses ensures workers receive fair compensation, improving lives and communities.
    • They are 100% electronic waste neutral.
We’re proud to be 100% e-waste neutral, meaning for every product we make, we recycle an equivalent amount of electronic waste. Even the packaging is 100% recyclable and designed to have a minimal impact on the planet.
  • When you choose the Fairbuds or the Fairbuds XL, you’re not just getting great audio—you’re supporting a movement for fairer electronics. For us, that’s the best reason there is. The more people who support Fairphone, the bigger impact we can make, and the more change we can push throughout the industry. Now that’s music to our ears.

If you’re still not convinced, here’s one more reason for a limited time only. In the spirit of Valentine’s Day, we’re spreading some Fairphone love with a flat 25% off on the Fairbuds and Fairbuds XL. The offer’s valid till February 26, 2025. Which means there’s no better time than now to choose fair. Click here to head to our webshop asap.

Fairphone audio products I’ll love?
Surely you wouldn’t bring back the headphone jack on the fairphone 6 for people who hate throwing away dongles, batteries or old working tech…

I can’t believe a company this progressive could exist, I’m so glad.

Why do you have to throw away dongles?

I wouldn’t read too much into this ad in disguise. It’s largely AI generated after all:

I don’t but I’ve seen a lot of them lost by somebody on the sidewalk… They’re easy to lose.
I won’t throw them away because I won’t buy them anyway…

I already know they won’t bring back the headphone jack, they made it abundantly clear with the release of the FP4 and confirmed everything when they released the FP5.

I also only read the title and wanted to be cynical about the annoucement regardles of its content.

Maybe we are not talking about the same thing, but how can you loose a wired dongle? But not the connected headphone or even phone?

Lightning to 3.5mm audio jack or USB-C to 3.5mm audio jack. Theose, yes.
I’ve seen some of them on the floor at metro stations and near parks :man_shrugging:

There is no logical reason for this. I’m not throwing away my house keys, just because they are not built into my phone.

I found 2 online AI-verifiers that said the text is 100% human and 1 that said the text was 61% AI. So I’m guessing this means nothing at all

the fact that people are checking whether the bit was written with an LLM in the first place is a testimony of how unoriginal and unnecessarily long it is perceived as.

So Fairphone is doubling down on hard sell?

Class example of setting false expectations (again).

If you want to successfuly market on the user community forum, dear @system, you would at least need to read it first.

I have fairbuds XL and the ANC is a joke. In good conditions it reduces the outside sounds by maybe 10%, so it’s pretty useless.

Also I stopped using the mic outside, because even the slightest wind would make the communication impossible.

And it’s sooo slow the change the mode (ANC on/off).

I do appreciate the good parts. And I’ve been supporting the fairphone for a long time now (4 phones bought for my family last 8 years), but the Fairbuds XL are really disappointing.

I dont really care about ANC and that stuff. The sound is good and that’s the only thing I care about for a headphone.

Fair enough, but they should not release a product with half-baked ANC as a prominent feature.
