Just created a ticket at the Fairphone support as I’ve seen the issue on both our FP5 now already. It used to be more stable in the past and it would be great to get that stability back.
I have this same problem, however with my FP6 sinds the latest update. I thought it was related to the dns over ipv6 issue, an other thread.
Just reporting that I also have this issue on my FP5. I blamed my WiFi first, and went as far as replaced one of my APs. But Unifi console didn’t report any issues, so I finally found out that the phone is the problem. Let’s hope it’ll get fixed soon.
Please don’t only hope but report it to Fairphone. The more people do this, the higher the chances that they will prioritize this.
It might be helpful if those who are experiencing this problem could provide some technical details of their access points. For example
- Frequency
- Security
- Randomized MAC
- IPv6 working ?
Thanks!
- Mixed 2,4/5GHz WiFi with 2,4 GHz Channel 11 and 5 GHz channel 44, Band steering activated
- WPA3
- Yes
- Yes
The problem occours both on split ssid 6GHz and 2.4/5/6 band steering as well.
Security is WPA3 only. Not mixed wpa 2 and 3.
I think mac is randomised as per default android settings, but I’m not quite sure.
Ipv6 is enabled on the router, but not by the isp. I only have a local ipv6 address.
More FYI: I have the same issue on my Fairphone 5 and I just created a support ticket.
I have mixed WIFi4/5/6. WPA2/3, because our laptops don’t support WPA 3. I have only one AP which supports WiFi6/6e, and because of positioning of that AP, I am often too far of it for WIFI6. So I suppose the problem exists at least in WIFI5. My main APs are Unifi 6 enterprise and Unifi Flex HD, and the problem has occurred in both of them. In addition I have some Unifi UAP Lites in some locations like cellar and garage, but I haven’t been there long enough to confirm whether the problem occurs on them too.
Another strange issue: I have a Tasker script which enables VPN connection (so that I have access to my NAS etc.) when I am too far from my WiFi and phone switches to mobile internet. But when this low quality issue occurs and phone switches to mobile internet, it doesn’t switch the VPN on. Which is annoying, as I lose connection to my stuff.
I got a Google Wi-Fi provisioner update yesterday and didn’t notice any disconnects so far - can someone confirm?
@ilmari are you using a Wireguard connection? If so: I switched from Tasker to “WG Tunnel”, a Wireguard fork that has a built in auto connect when you leave specified Wi-Fis. You may give it a try, it turned my VPN on reliable.
If you can tell me where to find this update? I went into the Play Store to check recent and planned updates, I went into the app listing on my phone but there is no such app in any of these places. (But it keeps disconnecting so far.)
It just showed up as an update in the Play Store, it’s one of the Core-Android Apps thats gets updated via the Play Sote. Guess it’s a staged update and you will get it in the next days.
But I haven’t had any disconnect today, looks promising.
I can confirm, had the same issue for a while now, but it suddenly went away a few days ago.
I can confirm, I have the same issue since a while. Other cell phones Samsung Galaxy-S21-5G don’t show this behavior
I received a reply from Fairphone Support today. Unfortunately it is not addressing this issue specifically. It is rather a list of standard fixes for general WiFi issues (one fix actually says to check if Airplane-Mode is enabled.
).
The issue actually seems to have ‘disappeared’ for me as well. For roughly three days I have not experienced any connection drops anymore.
Unfortunately, I cannot link this to any fix or update neither on my FP5 nor on my WiFi router.
Although I am obviously happy the issue seems to be gone, it actually is quite unsactisfying not to have identified a root cause. With this I can only hope it does not suddenly reoccur.
I still haven’t seen this app anywhere on my phone. Not in the Play Store, not on the app overview (with system apps shown off course). If it was an update I’d expect it to be there already and getting an update as the name suggests. But the problem also persists. Weird, but I keep watching it. Luckily it doesn’t happen all the time.
And I haven’t received a reply from Fairphone on this issue yet, either.
this issue hasn’t disappeared for me. WLAN shows weak connection, after disconnect and reconnect the connection seems to be stronger.
Got a reply to my ticket now. They ask me to turn off “adaptive connectivity”…if only that setting existed. ![]()
They also recommended to turn off mobile data or disable “Mobile data always active” in the developer settings.
Nothing about that they’re trying to fix this issue or that they’re aware this problem exists for other users.
