WIFI calls don't work on FP3

Although my operator allows calls over WIFI, I cannot use this with my FP3. Setting are clearly set to WIFI calls allowed, and correctly linked to local WIFI. When I switch off mobile network, calls over WIFI do not work. I even checked all invoice detail over the last year (in which I had the option 100% of the time active), not one of them was over WIFI (indicated on invoice as VoWIFI). Can anybody tell me why this doesn’t work?

Which country, which provider?

Orange BE Belgium, my colleagues with exactly the same subscription can use WIFI calls. They have iPhone or other Android device. Therefor I’m fairly sure that it has nothing to do with the subscription nor the provider.

If the provider doesn’t list the Fairphone as compatible, it is a problem of the Provider. But according to yours, it should work:

Which OS and version do you use, Fairphone OS or some Custom ROM (e.g. LineageOS, /e/OS, iodéOS)?

OS version should be visible somewhere in Settings - About phone.

I work for Orange BE  Fairphone (Android)
Wi-Fi calls work automatically with Fairphone 3 and 3+, sold in Belgium since 2020.

Android 13 latest update 05/11/2024, as proposed by FP.

2 sim cards in the same FP3, both WIFI calls (in/out) allowed. It doesn’t work for both.

That’s what can be read in the link I posted.

Sorry, but then I don’t get it why you are asking other users, instead of your employer?

Because it has nothing to do with provider nor subscription. It has everything to do with the device FP3.

Not in general, as it works for other Fairphone 3/3+ users, including me (Germany, provider Telekom, /e/OS).

Please check the following …

Dial (as a phone number with the number pad) *#*#4636#*#* - (Testing menu appears) - Phone information
There should be a line “Wi-Fi calling provisioned” there with a toggle, which you probably can’t toggle, but is the state of the toggle on or off for you?

I have on the test-menu 3 options in which you can go

  • Information about the telephone
  • Usage statistics
  • Wi-Fi information

when I go into ‘information about the telephone, there are 2 switches ‘on’ VoLTE-registration’ and ‘Wifi-conversations registered’

So it’s provisioned and should probably work.

Does it work with only one of the SIM cards in the phone?
(Which should also take care of the troubleshooting step to turn the phone completely off and on again.)

Else, there’s a network reset in the settings which resets “only” everything network related.

It can’t hurt to contact Fairphone support, too, perhaps they have something helpful in their knowledge base … https://support.fairphone.com/

It doesn’t work with one either. Turning off the phone for at least 3 minutes once weekly I do already → it’s the first action for troubleshooting with mobile phones. So I know that, since I work @ Orange BE since 2007. The only thing remaining to be 100% sure if it is/isn’t linked to the phone is a cross test → place my sim card in other phone and see if it works there. If it does, it’s 100% sure that it’s linked to the FP3. I’m gonna try if I can get my hands on another phone.

Where can I find the network reset in the settings of my FP3? That’s what I was trying to do yesterday by manually choosing other networks 5 times in a row.

Network reset done in the meantime

It certainly should help that you know your tech to sort out this issue, but just saying … if I “work at a company” that doesn’t automatically qualify me in the field of any core product of the company or closely related things.
I could work at the company in a department unrelated to the technicalities of the product and have a totally different set of expertise  .

This response doesn’t help at all…
