Which "system apps" drain my battery?

Fairphone 6 and Pixel 8a, same application setting, FP6 on Android 15, the Pixel got upgraded to Android 16. Full charge, only one app running (Gentle Alarm). After 9 hours, Fairphone battery is at 79%, with “system apps” being responsible of 90% of the drainage. The Pixel is at 95%, with “system apps” draining 10%. What can I do to know what these system apps are, what they do and how to make them behave?

Maybe check Settings - Battery - Battery Usage and there you can check out the app’s power comsuption and also switch to system’s power consumption. Have a look if you find a suspicious (system-)app and compare the comsumptions between the two devices.

Views by systems says Screen 45%, Camera 44%, which is absurd as the phone was not used during the night, the screen was off and the camera was not used at all.

@mike_1312 as I never noticed that before: in the settings under battery consumption under apps there is a not saying anything point (for me at the bottom) called system apps…over night this morning it was at 25 (of the total power used, which was omly very few percentages in flight mode) its now at 5% as I use the phone.

@tcoulon is this a one time occurence or normal? Have you transferred settings, apps etc from the Pixel to the FP6? Is there probably any app keeping the camera App working in the background?

@yvmuell that was not the point that I was talking about, but giving you a feedback for me, this point is always between 3% and 5% on my phone with my usage..

I’ve been talking about switching to detailed overview of power consumption of system apps here:

yes I know that you talked about the other view and that was just a comment as I never noticed that system apps thing at the bottom of all other apps mentioned in the initial post, and just wanted to mention it, in case other people neither noted this before.

Yes, most of the apps were transfered to the FP6. No idea which app could keep the camera working.

you can check in safe mode (infos here dic:safemode ) to see if its the same or better. The safe mode disables all third party apps…

There are also apps that might provide more details about usage and if the phone goes into deep sleep. e.g. the app accu battery

Actually discovered this (which I have not yet really looked deep into): I wanted to try another phone, so I changed the SIM card in the Fairphone - and the battery performance changed! A night with Spusu used up to 20%, a night with Lidl used 2%. I must check this on a longer time but that’s interresting. I wonder if anyone ever made a comparison between SIMs (and it will probably depend on where one is using which SIM…

Yes, the telecom conditions can make a big difference to power consumption, and coverage for different carriers can vary a lot. You would have to analyze signal strengths for all the carriers at a specific location.

Getting a bit off topic, but before moving my SIM to the FP6 I did some basic power consumption tests.

  • In Aeroplane mode and very little background usage, the battery consumption was about 0.33%/h. A full battery would last over 12 days!
  • Using AOD (I specifically wanted to know the cost of using the Always-On Display) power consumption went up to 2.27%/h, so AOD costs a little under 2%/h, fairly expensive. I use it when I need to keep an eye on notifications, it’s good to have when you need it.

AoD I quite consuming indeed. I find it a bit better since latest update, but don’t have the numbers to prove it. It would be nice to use the switch button to enable/disable it.
