Ah, it seems the fix could be in the next release (v2026.3.0). Although #38266 / a passkey fix does not show up in the upcoming release notes. Anyway the fix was too late for .2 ; i’ll wait and see
As the original poster dec-22 I can report that
- one of my “two Nitrokey3 keys” is now working on the forum.
The working login setup (for reference):
- Operating system “Linux Mint 22.3”.
- Nitrokey3 firmware v.1.8.3
- Firefox 153
- Using the “hardware key button” on login page
- oddly logging in with password first and THEN activating 2FA → did NOT work
Big thanks to @AxelFFF for having the time to register this forum bug, to get it fixed.
Will try with my other Nitrokey3 (firmware 1.7.2 still) when I get the chance. But seems very unlikely it won’t work as well. However: I do not own any computer with Windows. World changed since 2022
