Which computer do you recommend?

I finally need to replace my antediluvian laptop. Are there laptop makes out there with ethical standards comparable to Fairphone’s?

Here are some suggestions:

I can recommend the https://frame.work/ Laptop.
Bought two of them for me and my girlfriend, and we are both very happy with them.
The strength is the modular design and ability to upgrade the hardware. So you can use it as long as possible.

How much time does it take to ship? I ordered one on 31st December

Hello!

It looks super interesting!

Could you tell us more about your experience with buying and using the computer please ?

I feel like this would be the only ā€œfairā€ computer possibility in 2025…

Thanks a lot

Hallo @hakimouse

Since 2022 I use my Framework 13 Laptop. Ordered it with Intel 11th Gen CPU und upgraded it last year with an AMD Board. Worked like a charm and can still recommend it.

Thank you very much or your fast answer !

  • I don’t know much about computers myself. sorry if it’s too specific question but : do you know if the 16" could be good for modern gaming (except what they say…) ?
  • I had a shiftphone before and the delays of shipping phone, spare parts, repair, answering from support was huuuuge !! Could you tell us your experience ? (I’m in Europe by the way)

  1. The AMD board (7040 series) has a good integrated gpu so it’s good and also you can buy an RX 7700S graphics card module for it so I think it’s safe to say yes.

  2. Their shipping time (if in stock and not a pre-order) is around 3-5 days (if you buy a product from the nearest warehouse, in this case the EU one)

Hi everybody from the Fairphone community,

I use a NovaCustom laptop with Linux Mint. I am very happy with the laptop and the operating system.

Have a nice day

  • why did you feel you needed to upgrade ?

Hi @hakimouse

that upgrade wasnĀ“t needed. But I got rid of my old gaminmg PC an turned the ā€œoldā€ Framework board into a gaming PC with the cooler Master housing and external GPU. That works pretty well, even with modern games like Cyberpunk 2077. Currently pimping the cooling a bit to reduce the noise.

This may be of interest, even though the detailed score table is hidden behind a paywall. Scroll down to ā€œI can buy a fair phone, can I buy a fair laptop?ā€œ <3

Almost the same as @ElKrasso.
I have been using Framework 13, 11th Gen, with Ubuntu/Fedora, as a workhorse since 2022.
Just updated the motherboard with a Rysen 300, so it’s up to date for work, the next couple of years, without wasting resources on replacing all the other parts.
It’s a wonderful machine. Easy to repair and modularity is a breeze when done right.
The modularity makes almost all the parts reusable, reducing waste compared to any other laptop I’ve seen.
The old motherboard will live on as a desktop or server for some years. So even that is not wasted.

And the support is excellent. They really have some experts working on whatever problem I’ve had.

So my recommendations go to Framework :slightly_smiling_face:
