When will next security patch be available? FP6+ device security is too new

Hello, i’m having the most difficult time trying to setup my new FairPhone 6+. I received it in the mail yesterday, and it came with the stock android version installed. The website advertises that FP6 uses E/OS, but it doesn’t say that “you” have to install it.

Luckily, there’s an automated installer Installer | /e/OS documentation , but it’s process is poorly laid out. The “physical” instruction manual that comes with the phone - that you read first because it has all the important warning messages and usage information - instructs the user to update to the latest security patches when first receiving and using the phone, so i did. Then I went to the /e/OS installer, but then it’s saying that my device’s security patch is too new (I’m guessing I shouldn’t have followed the physical instructions first). And in order to get past that, i need to “Wait” until the next security update patch is available.

Does anyone know when the next security patch will be available? If it’s more than a few weeks, i think i may just return the new phone.

I bought the FP6 so that i can both de-google and use replaceable parts, but their order-of-operations is wrong, and now it looks like i can’t use the phone.

Hi there! Welcome to the community forum

You decide on the Fairphone shop which operating system you buy the Fairphone with. Stock (Fairphone) OS, or /e/OS.
Of course you can change it afterwards, but you could have bought it with /e/OS in the first place. There is no wrong advertisement.

For the timing of updates, check the changelog: https://support.fairphone.com/hc/en-us/articles/24463713641234-The-Fairphone-Gen-6-Gen-6-Release-Notes

Update: Are you in the US? Then, even though described in their FAQ like this, the /e/OS version seems currently not available in the US Fairphone shop. But the OS is clearly stated as not /e/OS in the tech specs

Hello and welcome to the community forum

I understand things might be confusing, especially after US launch. I am not sure which website you used, but I would suggest following the US website for US customers (and European one for Europe) - fortunately quite often the website follows the customer geolocation.

The US website does not offer e/OS devices and it is unfortunate that the information linked by @janweiss seems inaccurate. Especially in terms of warranty.

If you want e/OS preinstalled, I would suggest considering returning the device and purchasing it from Murena (but not before carefully checking the warranty small print).

I understand you are asking about e/OS security patches, am I correct? Perhaps e/OS forum would be a good space to ask - so I am glad you asked there, cross-posting for other e/OS users to follow
