Verification for Revolut/IDnow(?) not working because I can't switch to back camera

,

Hi,

I know it is a long shot but maybe it actually is a Fairphone problem and someone else ran into it already:

I have an account with Revolut and they now asked for id verification with a little video call with an actual person. Sure, whatever. My problem is that at one point during the call they need me to press a button in the app to switch to the back camera of the phone to scan/video my ID card and unfortunately this button does absolutely nothing.

  • I tried it on a Fairphone 5 with CalyxOS.
  • Both cameras work fine in other apps
  • I gave Revolut permission for the camera
  • Thinking it might be the OS I got my old Fairphone 3 (stock FPOS) and tried it there but it shows the exact same behavior. (both cameras are also working in other apps)
  • The Revolut app is up to date on both phones thought the FP3 OS might not be? I never use that phone.
  • The person on the phone would actually let me try to use the front camera to scan the id but it just can’t focus on the id up close enough.
  • The verification provider seems to be called “IDnow”. Or at least that is who I got an sms code from.

Has anyone else had and solved this problem? I would rather not go through the whole setup process on another persons phone if I don’t have to.

I doubt this is the problem, but will mention it anyway:
Revolut had recently been not working under /e/OS (until a software fix was delivered). I do not know what nature the issue there was. Anyway, apart from the software fix there they also mentioned the necessity to have the bootloader locked. Is yours locked or unlocked?

Hi, there has been an update of Revolut app released a few days ago, perhaps it’s a temporary glitch? I had to verify my account with the pictures over the summer but it was not during the call and I believe no scanning was needed.

The revolut app itself is working fine so far, it really only is the problem with the camera.

I just checked both phones. both bootloaders are locked. ((bootloader) unlocked:no)

I had to do the picture thing over the summer as well. this seems to be a new step. A coworker also had to do it. They say it has to do with some legal requirements of my country (Switzerland)

Edit: Revolut is up to date (oct. 7)

In my case it was my bad. I put the phone in the waterproof box with no access to fingerprint and forgot my pin :person_facepalming:t2:

But they did launch a new layer of protection with selfies, have not checked it out or activated yet.

The good part is that I am not in a hurry. It’s not an important account, not a lot of money and I can actually still use the cards to pay, I just seem to be unable to add money to the account (when I tried last time it got sent back to the account I sent it from, even though it has worked for years now). I’ll try to install Revolut on my partners phone. If it doesn’t work on his pixel then I guess I’ll get an account from a different bank..

Can you add the money using the card? Not the transfer? That should be instant.

It is not my main account but my main travel account for reference:)

by credit card you mean? I never tried that. Good idea.

The app doesn’t allow me to make a screenshot but it lists three options how to add money: Google pay (I believe it might not be possible on your FP5 with Calyxos but on FP3 perhaps), credit or debit card and transfer.

Can you do the ID thing using a PC?

I just get an error trying to log in on the browser of my home computer (before even entering anything), I will try again at work. I hadn’t even thought about that. Thanks for the suggestion!

Switch to back camera didn’t work for me either during the Swiss Revolut ID latest reverification process:

  • Fairphone 6
  • /e/OS 3.1.4
  • Boot loader locked

I had to retry trice and the last time I decided to use my front camera with all the jiggling you can imagine.

I ended up doing the verification on my partners Pixel and it worked there.

So, my problem is solved but it is still not clear why it won’t work on Fairphones..

Thanks for everyones suggestions!

Should I mark this as solved?

Hi, I would not mark it as solved IMHO.
The issue was persistent for you on two phones, two different ROMS, and for @PuZ .

And it is hardly solved if as a workaround you need a trusted pixel
