USB webcam mode for PC (Linux and win) with Android 14+

Is it also possible to use the Fairphone as a Webcam? It says Android 14 and above. But I don’t see the option. Any ideas? It seems to be part of Android 14, has Fairphone deactivated it or did I miss something?

You’re sure that’s also supposed to work with USB2? I would have guessed that still requires “using workarounds and downloading various software”.

I only use one app “DroidCam”. No cables needed. :slightly_smiling_face:

For FP4, FP said to me in a support ticket that this is indeed a part of A14, but they chose to not implement it (yet).

Open a support ticket for your phone and see what happens

I am using scrcpy for now which seems to be the best solution as it is open source and for free and gives highest resolution and lowest latency only a few milliseconds with a usb2 cable (haven’t tried wifi). And it also redirects the audio. But you need to enable debug mode on your phone.

I will write a ticket to Fairphone support as suggested.

I use Windows Phone Link, and have no issues using my FP6 as a webcam using this app.

For native support, it seems that it requires more changes than just android version 14+, I imagine this is not supported by FP: Android 14 Adds Support for Using Your Smartphone as a Webcam

I have a Fairphone 6 that was delivered with Android 15, so it should work. The Linux kernel is 6 point something.

And

adb shell 'zcat /proc/config.gz | grep CONFIG_USB_CONFIGFS_F_UVC'

‍says CONFIG_USB_CONFIGFS_F_UVC=y

But the phone doesn’t offer the webcam option when I plug the cable in.
