I’ve seen quite a few threads about this issue cropping up but none of them seem to have any solutions that have worked for me so far.
I have a Fairphone 5, and a small handful of different wired ear/headphones. The long and short of it is no matter what I try, the two just don’t seem to want to marry together. I’ve tried a number of different dongles/adaptors. I have also recently had my FP5 repaired due to it having a dud USB connection (that wasn’t fixed by me replacing the USB port myself) that was stopping it charging correctly and getting a USB data connection.
As my phone was only very recently returned to me repaired (as in, a couple of weeks ago, not to mention the new USB port I put in myself), I feel like it can’t possibly have another fault causing this problem… can it? I have also tested around 5 different dongles, along with as many headphones. They have all worked perfectly with other phones I have around the house, so it doesn’t seem like they’re faulty either.
I’ve tried a couple of different developer option toggles I’ve found on different threads here (Disabling USB audio routing, disabling the various toggles under Media transcoding settings), and have tried every app I have that produces sound (plus a few others I downloaded just to test).
Has anyone figured this out? I’m not really into the idea of just using Bluetooth as I do fly often and so need to bring my wired earphones for the in-flight system, and it seems a bit silly to carry two sets.
Hello and welcome.
Sorry to hear things are not working as you would like.
I switched to BT headphones upon my FP5 purchase and find it far too convenient to go back ( but that is irrelevant here sorry)
The thing is when I got my FP5 I have also purchased an FP adapter ( the previous version of this one)
And it does work with my wired headphones for sound/listening to music. I think voice recording is not that reliable and I remember testing it for someone with some apps, might look for these threads later if useful.
Have you tried this one? Are specs any different from those you have?
No I’m yet to try the official fairphone one. I’ll probably give it a go just to make 100% sure. To be honest I’m not sure what specs it has that are any different to any of the ones I’ve tried though… Some state in their Amazon listings that they have a built-in DAC chip, some don’t. The ones I’ve tried have all been Amazon specials though, by brands such as Ugreen, so it’s entirely possible their DAC claims are exaggerated!
Even given that… how much different can these cables actually be?
To be honest, I am not that savvy.
And obviously it might feel like (e)waste to purchase yet another one. Perhaps there is someone in your vicinity who has it so that you could check it out?
I have an old FP3 and FP5, and my mum has a FP4. I ended up with an old Sony (I think) dongle which I assume doesn’t have a DAC chip. This doesn’t work on the FP3, and possibly not the FP4, but it does work with the FP5. I now also have the official FP dongle with a DAC chip, and it works on all three. Just to note that I have only tested for audio out, not with any headsets with a microphone built-in.
