At least the number unwanted screen shots decreased significantly. I delete them in a batch every once in a while. Still I would be happy to disable this way of taking screen shots.
FWIW on a custom ROM I was on on my previous phone, the power+volume shortcut was off and the way to take screenshots was in the power menu (long-press power, click screenshot icon).
Would be nice to hace the same thing here on the stock ROM (I’m waiting for custom ones but it’s not a short term solution..)
I’ve taken so many screenshots ![]()
Yes and for me its worse since I have the case as it seems the vol buttons are more sensitive to a touch and the cut out on the other side makes it more difficult to center the finger and press the power button as you cant easily place the finger on it (it slips away from the case “wall”) . It would me much better if there would be just a normal cut out for the power button (case all around and just the middle open for the button/sensor) instead the big cutout.
Edit: for some reason the Vol Buttons in the case can be taken out… When you do this the buttons cant be pressed any more. I took out the Vol - button, and see if can get used to adjust Vol using the Vol+ button and the slider…
Exactly my thoughts on the cutout for the power button!
I grip the phone with my left hand and put my thumb on the area above the Vol + and my first finger on the yellow button, then press the power button with my second finger. Doesn’t feel very intuitive though.
sounds as if it could cause cramps in the hand ![]()
Takes me back to the days of the Nintendo Advance SP, would get cramp from that. Or the iPhone 4 where you had to avoid touching certain parts of the metal.
Same issue here. I really hope that when the case arrives it will reduce the problem. Sooo many screenshots…
I would love that the lock button could be used as gesture to open notifications by scrolling down. I remember that being a thing like 8y ago when finger sensors were in the back.
Hi all, I found a temporal workarround to avoid this screenshot issue.
I tried to change the configuration, but it is hardcoded into the OS and, at least in Murena, there is no option to change it, everywere I searched says the same.
Then I started to think how to make it less possible to stomp on the volume down, phisically.
It turns out that the volume button covers from the FP6 official protective case are separate pieces, so you can de-attach them without breaking it. Don’t worry, it is very easy to attach them back.
This way the volume down button is a lot more difficult to click (yes, not a perfect workarround, do it by your own risk) but you will never have an accidental screenshot.
For me, is it not perfect but, considering all, not bad either ![]()
Edit: just saw @yvmuell said it before in this same topic
@Ignacio
Like @NullHeader above, I got the case.
Finding the power buttons is easier to find now.
So if you have the finger print auto unlock enable, ( so you don’t have to press to unlock just scan) it works good. Locking the phone again is what harder, you don’t have a slick easy to press button, but also you know where the button is now, so you’re not guessing if you’re pressing the power button or not.
With the case on, the volume buttons are easier to press. Bit to easy and makes the whole screen shot thing happen faster… Like when I make a picture and have the phone set on a surface on the buttons side, it comment to be press and just makes lots of picture’s.
After using for two week, my middle finger is hovering the volume buttons/ hooking the extra mm next the volume buttons when I want to lock.
Side note: for the left hand handlers the layout makes better sense. You can unlock the phone with your index or middle finger and use the palm and thumb to apply the needed opposite pressure that won’t hit the volume buttons.
Thanks for the tips ! Now my Fairphone is finally perfect ![]()
I took off the two volume buttons so that the feeling is the same for both.
No possible unwanted screenshots now.
It also gives a better grip feeling in the hand.
I saw a video review of FP6 on youtube before buying it. The guy mentioned this as a negative and I though “well, thats not going to be a problem cause I’M not an IDIOT’. Here I am 200 screenshots later and I’ve concluded that this is indeed a massive issue for me. I’m taking screenshots whenever i want to put my phone away. Easily 10 screenshots a day. I’ve been trying to adjust my grip but conciously trying to do something other then what i intuitively do is difficult.
They need to implement a way to change this. I don’t ever recall actually wanting to take a screenshot of my phone so I don’t understand why i would need such a trigger-happy gesture for it.
Hello, I’ve looked at all the replies to this thread’s question, but no-one has suggested enabling the Accesibility feature in Settings. In my opinion it’s one of the most convenient features, for many purposes, including that there is a Lock Screen button there. There is also a power button which allows locking the screen, rebooting or shutting down. Once accesibility is set up, there’s an onscreen icon, which I’ve set to the bottom of the screen. It pulls the menu up, and for several features does away with the necessity of pressing a physical button, especially the power button, which being flush with the phone casing is problematic. Hope this is of help!
To avoid taking multiple screenshots when locking my fp6, I installed the “Button mapper” app and assigned a “lock screen” action to the “volume down” button. I also assigned a “display volume settings” action to the “volume up” button. Finally, to unlock the screen, I double-tap the screen instead of using the power button. This way, I rarely use the power button, only once a day to turn the phone on or off, or for fingerprint recognition in apps. My only regret is that you can’t lock the screen by long pressing the center button on the navigation bar. Google has reserved this for its Gemini assistant, no doubt to force us to adopt its solution rather than that of its competitors (remember Google+).
Oooh, interesting, thank you!
Until hopefully double-tap-to-sleep becomes an option for android (like it already is for e/os), this is very helpful!
I wonder if the volume-down button still works as a regular volume-down button when the screen is off?
I often use various wired headphones (now via a dac) with my phone in my pocket, and not all of them have their own volume control…. Although now I’m realising the dac (snowsky retro nano) does, so I might just have to get used reaching for that instead of my phone.
Indeed, volumes buttons (up and down) works as regular buttons when the screen is off.
I ended by buying another case protection than the official one, and it’s day and night, no more screenshot, and it’s easier to take phone and unlock it !

Fairphone 6 Alternative Cases / Screen Protectors
Seems like it’s not only my issue with accidential screenshots. Would be nice if Fairphone added possibility to change that shortcut
