Switch fairphone Off - Alarm clock available?

I want to switch off my fairphone every evening to reduce distraction in the evening. Is it still possible to hear the alarm clock in the morning, even if the fairphone is completely switched off?

Welcome to the Community Forum.

From what I know, this was only ever possible in the Fairphone 1 some years ago, but in none of the following models (FP2, FP3, FP4, FP5). What I do instead is just activating “Flight Mode” at night.

I looked into this on after an android upgrade.

7–8 I think?

They had a wonderful function where you could tell your phone went to switch off and on. So you could switch it off in the evening and have it wake up just before you’re alarms. Like Microsoft, sometimes they have upgrades that you don’t notice positives, but one of your favorite functions has been discontinued.

I never found an alternative/an app.

Airplane mode is fine, but it doesn’t stop you from reaching your phone and falling down a rabbithole.

There was nothing like having your phone 100% off to stop you using it

In current /e/OS on a Fairphone 3/3+ go to Settings - Advanced privacy - Manage Apps’ Permissions - Additional permissions - Power Off Alarm, and allow the Clock App there  .

(Could very well be that the Clock App allowed for this is even the default setting and I turned it off somewhen.)

Feel free to try on a Fairphone 4 or 5, I don’t have one.

While both my clock apps have this allowed (by default) in the Advanced Privacy settings, I have not been able yet to find if this functionality is really available anywhere on my FP3+ running /e/OS. Any Idea? Or is it possible that Advanced Privacy “allows to allow” this regardless of the specific device’s technical ability to execute this?

With the Clock App allowed there, wouldn’t it be enough to set an alarm and turn off the phone? Worked for me a while back, apparently.

I can confirm this for FP3 on /e/OS. :+1: Brief testing results:
:white_check_mark: FP3 on /e/OS
:no_entry: FP3 on Fairphone OS (system app “Power Off Alarm” will not let me edit permissions)
:no_entry: FP4 on Fairphone OS (system app “Power Off Alarm” will not let me edit permissions)
:no_entry: FP5 on Fairphone OS (system app “Power Off Alarm” will not let me edit permissions)

On my FP3, the device woke up like 90 seconds prior to the alarm set.

F*CK. I though they stopped manufacturing the HW in a way that it can autowake. Now, knowing that the HW is pretty well capable of it, it is a big pity the default OS cannot do that. It would be awesome e.g. when hiking. But I won’t install any alternative OS, that’s just too much hassle and headaches with non-working apps for me.

my elder Tablet from HU…EI (Android 9.1) does have this function, too.

missing this feature, too (e.g. sometimes, when on trips)

I tried looking for it in the permissions that somebody posted above but my 3+ doesn’t have it. I cranked up a really old Android 4.2.2 (because my FP has started this nonsense of going into slow charging mode if I let the battery get below 20%) and there was the old setting to shut your phone down loud and proud in the settings!

I realise though I’ve gone sideways and the OP was only asking about whether alarm clocks work if you switch your phone off.

OK I just tried it and can confirm that no: this FP3+ Android 13 it doesn’t come back on for an alarm if you switch it off.

(Now, for the double switch-on–a weird quirk of this phone is that you have to turn it on twice. The first start-up leaves you in “initializing mode” (it’s always been this way))

Anybody to tell me if FP4 can be awaked by programmed alarm? I cannot test it myself because the on/off button is broken

Only if you are on e/os

I had to search what e/os mean, so I suppose no :face_with_peeking_eye:. Thanks a lot
