Suggestion for a Potential Collaboration Between Fairphone and GrapheneOS

I am not a cyber security expert, but far as has been proved grapheneOS is a much more secure than any other smartphone OS. It is the only smartpohone os that government forces can’t access ( GrapheneOS exits France — what it means for encryption | Proton ). It provides other benefits like not having to log in to a google account to use your phone (it is not only secure but also private) and sandboxing of profiles.

I don’t know what “huge issues” you mean… this is a long thread and many supposed issues are discussed, like the fact that it is not available in smartphones other than pixels… With a huge manufacturer like motorola officially partnering with graphene I feel like many critics are outdated, but please correct me if wrong.

I don’t see what the disadvantage to giving it a try is, it would obviously be a different product than the ones they are offering now. I expect grapheneOS capable phones to have a much higher demand now that age verification (or should i say identity verification) legislations are coming into play (even at the OS level).

The huge issues start with how graphene devs talk like evwry other OS is utterly insecure, it goes forth with misinformation like the link you posted and what you write afterwards.

On Android, like FPOS, e/OS, grapheneOS, you can uninstall every app using adb. FPOS does not need a Google account to work. The secure element is an attack surface and especially for more advanced users rather a pita.

So yes, graphene has a few nice anti tracking features, but that stands alone against the downsides.

I don’t know, your answers are just too general, indeed you don’t necessarily need a google account to use the FP but that does not change the fact that you may very well be forced to in the near future. What specific part about the link I shared is misinformation? It just seems to me that many people are just mad at the grapheneOS team for saying mean things that may not be exactly true.

Tell me something, when legislations are passed in the EU (or its member states) about age verification for OS, like we see more and more in other states, what do you think will happen to e/OS, android or FPOS? Will they stand their ground (graphene has proved it will, or maybe also misinformation…)? Governments have the means to force them to comply. Even FOSS OS like ubuntu or fedora have confirmed they will comply with age verifications legislations implemented in some US states.

If you think that is not a realistic scenario then you are coherent, and that is fine. For me that is a rather naive pov and I wish I am wrong… I still think there will be a big market for smartphones with the openness and security requirements to be grapheneOS capable, even if they are not to be used with grapheneOS (but are prepared for a future alternative).

At the end of the day, it is just a business suggestion, the market will be there even is FP does not want a piece of the pie (small pie, but again i expect it to become bigger, maybe I am wrong). People will just buy less repairable (maybe not so much so with new legislations) pixels and motorolas…
