Sudden battery drain out of nowhere

I ran Safe Mode overnight and the battery level almost didn’t drop, so I guess I can rule out any hardware issue.

Is there any tutorial or similar on how to run ADB on Linux Mint/Ubuntu, in order to run Better Battery Stats? My phone is not rooted either.

Hi, i’ve never done this myself but it seems that the tools are in the repository:
sudo apt install adb fastboot
sudo adb start-server
sudo adb devices

Update:
problem not yet solved.
But I tried several things:
-exchanging the bottom module didn’t fix the problem. But the new USB port is fine. So the exchange was at least necessary.
-safe mode: no power drain. Battery level drops very slowly only. Same when switching off the airplane mode.
-normal mode: after first startup (before first unlock) almost no power drain. Maybe more than in safe mode, but significantly less than the unusual power drain. Phone remains cool.
-normal mode after first unlock: power drain raises.
Phone gets warm, battery level quickly goes down.
Airplane mode doesn’t change it. Energy saving mode has no effect on it.

So it seems that it’s a software issue.

I didn’t try to track the power drain with the BBS app yet, because I didn’t had time yet to look into the adb stuff.

Is there any way where I could start services manually, one by one? So to say, to pause the automated start after every step?
I don’t like the suggestion Google provides: to uninstall every app and then reinstall them one by one. That’s not gonna happen. That’s not a solution. It would be easier to reset the whole phone instead and install a fresh system.
I’d prefer if I could deactivate all additional apps and then activate them one by one.

You can force-stop and deactivate/activate Apps you installed in Settings - Apps - See all … apps - (choose App)

Thats only possible for apps you cant deinstall

Ah, thanks, I skillfully chose exactly the wrong App to look at :see_no_evil: .

my fp3+ too gets its battery completely drained overnight for absolutely no reason (build 6.A.031.7 I never did the last update)

BBS seems to be kicked out from Google Play Store. They did a big cleanup there during the last weeks. Probably because BBS’s latest version is too outdated for the play store. (But I use Fdroid as well anyway)

Could you explain this a little bit? This sounds interesting.

So after a while I managed to get Better Battery Stats running with ADB, with the help of that article you sent and the official documentation (some permissions have to be granted):

https://better.asksven.io/betterbatterystats/non-root/

Now I got the stats but am not very sure about what to do with them (see screenshots).

Am I seeing right that Google Play services, Android System and AudioMix are sending many alarms and thus preventing the phone from getting into Deep Sleep?

How can I proceed from here?
Thank you

I would say, I would start with the kernel wakelocks, but from what I see from the summary the phone was in deep sleep for about 75% of the time. What about the processes?

Searching the internet for qcom_rx_wakelock, 70000.ssusb (see for example https://xdaforums.com/t/workaround-for-70000-ssusb-wakelock-power-drain.3824441/) and the 2 IPA_* wakelocks shows, that those seem to have caused battery drain for others.
Some more hints:

  • I had something similar in the past with play services and removing the storage and cache of that and restart the phone helped a bit.
  • You could try something like EnforceDoze | F-Droid - Free and Open Source Android App Repository in order to get into the least power consuming mode of the phone
  • You could try to check the CPU status and see in which states and more important frequencies the cores are running.

How to track down what’s causing the 100% Powermanagerservice.Wakelocks?

Same issue with my FP3, replaced the battery but that didn’t solve it. Started about 2 weeks ago.

Unlike oriolgilis phone, mine is at 0% DeepSleep and 100% Powermanagerservice.wakelocks
Any suggestions how to proceed?
I tried using EnforceDoze, but this didn’t make a difference.
Here are some current screenshots.

My phone apparently went back to normal (~2-3%/h battery drain) after removing the storage and cache of Google play services.

Now it’s been OK for the last two days, I’ll keep an eye on the power usage for a while still but it looks better now.

Thanks for the support

—Update: this was too early. Phone still doesn’t work as it should. There is still unusual power drain. Will try to delete storaged data of Google Play Services as well. But this has consequences, so it needs some preparation before I can do that.—

Maybe the solution here as well? :
In recovery mode I deleted the Cache of Google Play Services (not to be confused with “Google Play”! One can find “Google Play Services” under “Settings > Apps > Show all Apps”. Maybe it is necessary to tap the three dots and check “show system apps”, idk if it is shown in the normal list as well)

Unlike user oriolgili I didn’t even delete the Stored Data of Google Play Services, but my phone seems to work normal now again. At least it didn’t drain so quickly today, also it doesn’t produce so much heat.
I’ll watch it a few days before I’d mark it as the solution here.

Thanks, I have the same problem from the same dates. I will try this solution.

I deleted the cache and stored data of google play services yesterday. From then on seemed like that battery drain was much less. Phone did not loose almost any power during the night, while previous nights it was empty in the morning. But unfortunately after installing updates from the google app store, the issue is there again. Phone warming up, fast battery drain (it’s a completely new battery). I even got a message that Quickstep was using much battery.

is maybe one of the updated apps causing this issue?
What happens if you delete the cache of all of the recently updated apps?
Especially if that helped:
Maybe you can tell us, which apps got an update. Maybe there are apps which others here use, too, so that we can get closer to the source of this issue.

I doubt it’s one of the updated apps but in attachment screenshots.
Systems apps do not show here. Maybe these are updated in the background once you start to update ‘normal’ apps?
