Disabling 4g Calling in sim settings makes my phone loose the signal, I donāt know if thatās my carrier specific (three UK) or software update but in past Iāve played with this option and never experienced this.
What do you mean you only keep 3G/2G? Is there still a 3G or 2G network?
No, I mean disabling 4G Calling completely disables my SIM card. To the point that even my number is not recognised.
Updated!
But last night my device rebooted.
Ah sorry missed the word calling⦠Can you borrow another SIM to test? In my perception Three isnt the best provider in combination with Fairphones and brought troubles here and there.
I would see that as quite logical, though it would be better to have informed users of a change of policy.
Remember that, with the end of 3G, it is no longer an option to use 4G Calling. It must be provisioned by the Carrier and enabled by the user. Logically the setting would disappear, once 3G shutdown is completed globally.
Now that I come to think about it, that may now be the default setting. I donāt know whether that would be decided in AOSP, or by FP, or by the Carrier.
Not sure I can follow this: why would the SIM card be completely disabled from the network just because I disable the option to use 4G Calling? Why should that have any impact on using mobile data?
its here although Iām not sure I would have any use case for it
I didnāt say anything about data. Iām answering Piotr_Malarzās question about calling.
You may not have noticed, that in the first screenshot, the SIM is not in fact disabled, only calls - including the subscriberās number. Data use is still enabled.
My suggestion is that, the user having disabled 4G Calling, it is possible that the Carrier cannot provide any telephony service and therefore temporarily disables the number.
@Piotr_Malarz used the word disabled to express there is zero reception at all, see the exclamation mark, so to my understanding its not only calls that is not working, thus my question
Yes, looks like data isnāt working, it will be interesting to have confirmation.
But in any event, 4G Calling is now pretty much obligatory, since even 2G is on the way out and already shut down in some countries.
Any info on āImproved application loading times in certain scenarios when device is connected to WiFiā, is it to do with IPv6 - I had problems with with my internet provider specifically (youfibre) having it enabled has been causing some apps to get stuck
No

Well, found something I think is a bug from this software
Will open a case on Monday. Not sure if anyone else noticed (if so, please follow my other thread to not bomb this post).
Having the problem others have reported with not being able to close the notification drawer which is annoying with auto-brightness being as it is.
Iāve also noticed when the phoneās manually locked but kept āunlockedā by Extend Unlock the phone just doesnāt respond to your fingerprint, which maybe was always the case, but I donāt think it was. So you end up in a infuriating cascade where you adjust the brightness, canāt escape quick settings / notifications, press the lock button, remove your finger, rest your finger on the fingerprint sensor again and nothing happens until you push the lock button, which takes you to the lock screen which you have to dismiss. Whereas when the phone is actually fully locked, just resting your finger on the fingerprint sensor wakes the phone and bypasses the lock screen.
This all did lead me to investigate the new āSkip lock screenā option which seems to be backwards? If you have it set to checked your fingerprint wakes the screen and shows the lock screen and with it crossed your fingerprint wakes the screen and takes you to your home screen directly.
For both kindly use the specific topics for further discussion
Does anybody knows when the rollout of this update will be finished? I mean, the update was released on June 22nd. The May update I received the day after release.
