That means an unlock code isnt needed any more

https://support.fairphone.com/hc/en-us/articles/10492476238865-How-to-unlock-and-re-lock-the-bootloader

Just from my very recent experience (with an up-to-date FP3 last week): If the simplification is the same as was introduced for the FP3 some weeks ago, then what this saves you is retrieving and entering an unlocking code. You will still need to unlock the bootloader using ADB and Fastboot as described in Step 3 of Yvonne’s link right above.

I just missed the word code and added it and the process is mentioned under the link I posted, so Step 2 following is relevant

The update is already available via T-Mobile Germany. Right now: optimizing…

Update: Restart went smoothly and apparently a lot faster as after previous updates…

After updating, I was no longer able to connect to wifi. I could toggle it on, but if I left the network screen and came back, it was off again.

Restarting seems to have fixed the issue though

So there is no fix to the Wi-Fi issue or random rebooting for those in North America? Is there a reason for this? Is the team still looking into those issues?

No there is not and yes they are.
Further diskussion about this to be held here

The topic for this and further discussion here

Just got the update this morning, the installation was pretty quick regardless of the huge update size.

Nothing to report, the phone is working fine.

Updated now in Sweden.
went well but:

  • 5g got enabled automatically
  • VoWifi got enabled also. When I disabled the logo still appears next to the WiFi.

For me the VoWifi was after update and reboot disabled. Before that it was enabled. I noticed that in the status bar.

Just to point out that, on the FP6 running FPOS A16, icons for Wi-Fi calling and 4G Calling (also known as VoLTE) are similar and easily confused.

The Wi-Fi Calling icon looks like this: image

The 4G Calling icon looks like this: image

Also, if both Wi-Fi Calling and 4G Calling are both enabled by the user and provisioned by the operator, and Wi-Fi Calling is active, then when Wi-Fi Calling is disabled, its icon will be replaced by the 4G Calling (VoLTE) icon, immediately and automatically.

[Edit - On the subject of icons, be aware that icons sometimes change, and may not be the same on different phones and with different versions of Android – or, indeed, with updates of the same Android version.]

Thanks! Will update my comment for clarity then
The VoLTE logo was not there before, now it is. VoWiFi still got activated when I hadn’t.

Only one icon or the other will be displayed at any one time, because the phone can only use one means of routing phone calls at any one time.

The icon shown in the Status bar indicates which method of routing is currently being used.

If both Wi-Fi Calling and 4G Calling are enabled and provisioned and available, then the choice of which one to use is determined partly by the user, with the “Calling preference” setting. It can be either

  • Call over Wi-fi
(If Wi-Fi is unavailable, use mobile network)
  • Call over mobile network
(If mobile network is unavailable, use Wi-Fi)

However, the phone will use whichever connection is the better, so even if you’ve chosen “Wi-Fi”, the phone can decide to use the mobile network if that seems preferable (better data throughput).

Yes, I think that I saw this reported elsewhere. However, to my mind it’s not a bad thing, taking all things into consideration, since often a good Wi-Fi connection is better than mobile network.

Still waiting on the first android 16 update…

Mobile vikings (Proximus Belgium)

Same here. Wifi-calling was enabled, but after update and reboot it was disabled.
VoLTE remained active.

Thanks for all the clarifications!
That the logo appeared was the trigger. Before I had VoLte enabled in settings but no logo. If the logo is not new then something affected how the operator provisioned.

Secondary question for those who already have this update: is the battery icon bigger?

I’m afraid not.

However, if you go to
Settings > Accessibility > Magnification
and enable the triple-tap shortcut, I find that’s a tolerable work-around.
