Just from my very recent experience (with an up-to-date FP3 last week): If the simplification is the same as was introduced for the FP3 some weeks ago, then what this saves you is retrieving and entering an unlocking code. You will still need to unlock the bootloader using ADB and Fastboot as described in Step 3 of Yvonne’s link right above.
So there is no fix to the Wi-Fi issue or random rebooting for those in North America? Is there a reason for this? Is the team still looking into those issues?
Just to point out that, on the FP6 running FPOS A16, icons for Wi-Fi calling and 4G Calling (also known as VoLTE) are similar and easily confused.
The Wi-Fi Calling icon looks like this:
The 4G Calling icon looks like this:
Also, if both Wi-Fi Calling and 4G Calling are both enabled by the user and provisioned by the operator, and Wi-Fi Calling is active, then when Wi-Fi Calling is disabled, its icon will be replaced by the 4G Calling (VoLTE) icon, immediately and automatically.
[Edit - On the subject of icons, be aware that icons sometimes change, and may not be the same on different phones and with different versions of Android – or, indeed, with updates of the same Android version.]
Only one icon or the other will be displayed at any one time, because the phone can only use one means of routing phone calls at any one time.
The icon shown in the Status bar indicates which method of routing is currently being used.
If both Wi-Fi Calling and 4G Calling are enabled and provisioned and available, then the choice of which one to use is determined partly by the user, with the “Calling preference” setting. It can be either
Call over Wi-fi
(If Wi-Fi is unavailable, use mobile network)
Call over mobile network
(If mobile network is unavailable, use Wi-Fi)
However, the phone will use whichever connection is the better, so even if you’ve chosen “Wi-Fi”, the phone can decide to use the mobile network if that seems preferable (better data throughput).
Yes, I think that I saw this reported elsewhere. However, to my mind it’s not a bad thing, taking all things into consideration, since often a good Wi-Fi connection is better than mobile network.
Thanks for all the clarifications!
That the logo appeared was the trigger. Before I had VoLte enabled in settings but no logo. If the logo is not new then something affected how the operator provisioned.
