Software Update: FP4.QREL.15.20.0.20260821145807 📲

:open_mouth: Definitely paranoid. My own banking apps have never complained, neither other security-related work apps I have on my phone. I can understand banking apps don’t like rooted phones since being root could undermine their security enclosure, but I don’t see how Dev options could do such a thing. Oh well, a case of “though luck” I guess.

If root can undermine your security enclosure, you don’t really have a good security enclosure

@all back to topic please.

Can somebody having installed this update enter Settings/System/Developer Options, scroll all the way down (bottom third) to the “Window/Transition/Animator duration” scales, and check the values shown there?

FP4.QREL.15.20.0 shows “1” for all three of them. Owner of the phone (not me) hasn’t touched them.

For the record - I did install the update, and I don’t experience any slowdowns (blurring enabled). I just see it happening for a split second, and only because I was looking for it. Transitions and unlocking are as fluid as they always were. The only new annoying thing is that the app switcher (square button) is kind of stuttery when trying to scroll to another app (and the app you came from is blurred - why?).

So it’s probably not an issue with the blurring itself, but an interaction with some other display feature.

-– Edited: 2 days later:

Surprisingly today this has reverted back to how it was before - The app you come from (i.e. the app you are in when hitting the square button) is not blurred anymore, and scrolling recent apps is normal again, not stuttery like after the update. :open_mouth:

For the record I haven’t rebooted my phone since, I haven’t done anything special with it besides using it for calls. Seems the system was still digesting… :man_shrugging:

Thanks for thinking along. But alas, the animation scaling factors are all set to 1, so it doesn’t appear to be that.

Short term yep, and glad I at least have a workaround. This is however a regression in usability, so I do expect the FP engineers to acknowledge the issue and come up with a fix for future versions.

please report to support to ensure its fixed

Installed the update when it was released, could not really make sense either of this new blurring thing.

The app that was being used when pressing the square button would indeed blur, but with quite noticeable stuttering.

Disabled “Allow blurring windows” (“Autoriser le floutage au niveau des fenêtres” in French), the blur thing was gone and UI was snappy again.

Did someone report this?

I tried to report it last week, but I could not make it through in any of the two paths I found. One referred me to reporting a problem, and the problem report unfortunately ended in an error.

I created a ticket in the support portal a few days ago reporting this software issue. Still have a ticket from May that hasn’t had a response since June though, and that was for a much simpler (shipping) issue. My faith in this process is minimal.

Edit: credit where credit is due, they did follow up just now!

I also reported now, it worked from desktop, thanks @Meaghan

Same here in the beginning, but strangely enough the next day this was gone: No app was blurred anymore (only the background), and the whole process was as fast as usual. I hadn’t changed anything, and didn’t reboot.

(Jeez, hundreds of useless smileys, not a single “head scratching” one…)

In the meantime a new, different issue appeared, which might or might not be related to this update. :man_shrugging:

I’d say I’m disappointed but honestly it’s exactly the kind of software experience I’ve learned to expect from Fairphone. Interaction has never been properly fluid since they pushed the ghost touches “fix” all those years ago but this is another level of jank. This should not have shipped.
